Renovating my old tobacco barn my grandad built in 62’. I use it as my shop. The history of these old western ky tobacco barns is worth saving. Only the lower west side was in need of replacemnt and rest needs a good going over to patch up the loose boards and strips. #cadiz #kentucky #westernkentucky #triggcounty #tobaccobarn #granddad

Got a lot more done on my barn. Replaced 3 sides of soffits, replaced a few bad boards, 6 sheets of 5v roof metal and repaired the structure damage under it, was running out of time with my friends lift so didn’t get all the ridge cap replaced but will get back to that soon and the last side of soffit. Then will get back to replacing more boards as needed. Was originally built for my grandad in 1962 as a burley tobacco barn with lumber sawed from this farm. Grandmother had the concrete floor poured , soffits built and laths put in the better seal it for her need of storage in early 1990’s. I bought part of their farm from grandmothers estate in 2019 making me the 6th generation to live here and have been making repairs all along. Last year we replaced west side lower boards and raised the tier piles on one side for 13’6” ceiling height. Added new lighting. Will eventually put barnwood on top of them for a 2nd level floor / ceiling from below. We lose too many of these west Ky wooded barns every year. It’s not a cheap adventure but worth every penny and the sweat. #farmtok #westernky #kentucky
