On an aircraft, they tell you to put your own oxygen mask on first. You can’t help someone else if you can’t breathe yourself. I was trying to take care of myself. I was trying to keep my own head above water. And when I finally was able to look back, she had drowned. I was drowning too and took a long time to find a life raft. I kept putting off the things I knew would help me, until it was almost too late. Losing my sister was a wake up call. If I don’t focus on me, that could be me too. I saw what it did to my family and how much it hurt that she left me. Take care of your mental health. Ask for help. Check on the people you love. You don’t have to save yourself alone, and you don’t have to drown quietly.

Call it quiet time, play Lo-Fi music, and just let him chill after school while we wait for his brother. I started this the last week of summer since he was starting school for the first time and would no longer be able to nap for 2hrs during the day. Moved “nap time” to the time he would be getting picked up from school and called it quiet time! During the summer I just had him chill in his bed (like a normal nap set up) and would come wake him up (he always fell asleep) around the time he would be getting home normally from school. Long story short: move nap time to school pick up time, call it quiet time, and put chill music on in the car and leave the questions about school for when you get home.
