Cerîde-i Adliyye (The Justice Gazette), Ministry of Justice, Istanbul, 1924–1925. This remarkable run of covers for a Turkish law journal features statistical graphs prepared by the government’s Directorate of Statistics and Publications. It is a dazzling example of modern data visualization using Arabic text. Three years later, all official documents in Turkey were replaced with the Latin alphabet. #Infographics #DataViz #Turkey #TurkishDesign #Turkiye #1920sDesign #ArabicScript #LetterformArchive

Jada Simone Haynes, Senior Collections Associate, walks us through Black Memory Scholar: The Language of Storytellers, a pop-up exhibition on view April 28–July 10, 2026. Drawing on deeply personal family history — including a quilt made by her great-great-aunt and a rediscovered poem by her late great-aunt, novelist Joyce Carol Thomas. The exhibition weaves together objects from the Archive's collection alongside items from her mother's personal library to argue that Black storytelling — through textiles, oral histories, and visual art — is a foundational form of historical preservation, not a peripheral one. Gustav Klutsis, postcards for 1928 Spartakiad, 1928, Moscow The Spartakiad (or Spartakiade/Spartakiada) was an international sports event sponsored by the Soviet Union (Red Sports International) from 1928 to 1937. This postcard series promotes the first edition, held in Moscow. The design is by Gustav Klutsis (Густав Густавович Клуцис), the Latvian Constructivist artist known for his photomontage. The event was produced in opposition to what the Soviets saw as the capitalist Olympic Games, in which they did not participate. Thus the name derived from Spartacus, a figure representing the ultimate proletarian rebel. #WorldCup2026 #Spartakiad #LetterformArchiveBooks #PublicationDesign #Printing #Publication #LetterformArchive #GraphicDesignBooks #Typography #TypographyBooks #vintage #ussr #sovietolympics
