Homemade Buttery Biscuits Golden on the outside and soft inside, these homemade biscuits use simple ingredients and cold butter for tender, flaky layers. Yield: About 8 biscuits Oven temperature: 425°F Bake time: 12–15 minutes Ingredients * 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting * 1 tablespoon baking powder * 1 teaspoon salt * 1 tablespoon sugar * 1 stick cold butter (½ cup), cut into slices * 1 cup milk Instructions 1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. Mix the dry ingredients. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. 3. Cut in the butter. Add the cold butter slices. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, leaving some pea-sized pieces. 4. Add the milk. Pour in the milk and stir gently just until a soft dough forms. The dough will be slightly sticky; avoid overmixing. 5. Shape and fold. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. With floured hands, gently pat it into a rectangle. Fold it into thirds, then repeat once more to help create layers. 6. Cut the biscuits. Pat the dough to about ¾–1 inch thick. Cut with a floured biscuit cutter, pressing straight down without twisting. Gently gather the scraps to cut the remaining biscuits. 7. Bake. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, close together for softer sides or spaced apart for crisper edges. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until risen and golden brown. 8. Serve warm. Brush the tops with a little melted butter, if desired. Val’s tip: Keep the butter cold and handle the dough gently. If it feels too sticky to shape, lightly dust your hands and work surface with flour, adding only enough to make it manageable.

Episode 8 | Dominica 2035: What Are We Building Toward? Portsmouth is more than a beautiful town on the sea. It has the potential to become a thriving blue-economy hub. Yachting, fisheries, marine services, diving, conservation, hospitality and locally owned businesses can all work together to create jobs and community wealth. But growth must come with cleaner coastlines, protected waters and community buy-in. The ocean isn’t just scenery. It’s economic infrastructure. And for me, Portsmouth is one of the places where that future can begin. #Dominica #PortsmouthDominica #BlueEconomy #Dominica2035 #Marina
