Rafting our first Class IV rapid 💀🌊 We just did our first-ever rafting + camping trip through Westwater Canyon on the Colorado River, and honestly, we really didn’t know what to expect going into this trip… but it ended up being SUCH an amazing experience. We intentionally chose to raft Westwater in August for a reason. We wanted the lower water levels of late summer vs. the bigger, more powerful flows you can get in the spring. What we didn’t expect was just HOW low the river would be this year because of the drought — some of the lowest water our guides had ever seen on Westwater. Lower water meant more exposed rocks + much more technical lines through the rapids… especially Skull, the Class IV rapid you see here. 💀 Before we ran it, our guides actually tied up our boats so that they could get + climbed over the rocks to scout our route and figure out the best line through. And our @oars_rafting guides absolutely NAILED IT. 🙌🏼 They were such badasses, kept us safe, everyone stayed in the boat 😂 + Skull ended up being one of our favorite rapids of the entire trip. Rafting Westwater at such low water definitely made things more technical + it was shallow in places, but it honestly didn’t take away from our experience at all. We rafted. We swam. We camped at beautiful, private campsites along the Colorado River with just our group. We laughed A LOT. 😝 And our first-ever multi-day rafting + camping trip has officially become one of our favorite adventures we’ve ever done. ❤️ Westwater… we’ll be back. Our Nightly Routine on Mount Kilimanjaro 🏕️ What happens after a full day of hiking on Africa’s highest mountain? Every evening followed a familiar routine. We’d arrive at camp to find our tents already set up by our amazing team @pristinetrails, we would clean up with hot water and our body wipes (our version of a shower!), change into our cozy clothes, enjoy dinner, complete our nightly health checks, and get our briefing for the next day’s hike before crawling into our sleeping bags.
