Sirdar Kartar Singh Virk, known popularly as S. Kartar Singh Jhabbar after his native village of Jhabbar in Sheikhupura district (now in Pakistan), was a Sikh leader known for his role in the Gurdwara Reform Movement of the 1920s. In 1920 his campaign led to the establishment of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, he was also a key figure in the Akali movement). Maharaja Ranjit Singh formed an alliance with the Kartar Singh's grandfather Mangal Singh and the Jhabbar chiefs. S Jhabbar had become impressed by the speeches given by S. Mool Singh Gurmula at Virn village, which motivated him to work for Sikh religion. In 1906, he enrolled at the Khalsa Updeshak Mahavidyalayia in Gujranwala, a training institute for Sikh preachers, where he spent 3years. He began working as a Sikh religious preacher in 1909 & became a sevadar (volunteer) of the ongoing Singh Sabha movement, where he defended the lower-caste Hindus and Muslims. He travelled across Punjab & gave lectures, which led people from Hindu and Muslim communities to voluntarily convert into Khalsa Sikhs. After two months of preaching, he recruited 500 members for the Singh Sabha. While he was giving lectures at Gurdwara Baoli Sahib, around five to six thousand Sikhs would gather to listen to him speak. Eventually, Jhabbar moved his base-of-operations to Lahore. In 1912, he established a Khalsa middle-school in Sacha Sauda village in the Sheikhupura district, in which he appointed Sardar Arjun Singh as the school's first president. 1920s, led the Gurdwara Reform Movement, which aimed at transferring the control of Sikh gurdwaras from Mahants and British to the SGPC. In 1920, a jatha led by him seized the control of the Babe di Ber gurdwara in Sialkot. Also played an important role in the SGPC's takeover of the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of the Sikhs from Mahants. Helped the Akalis seize control of Gurdwara Panja Sahib (Nov 1920), Gurdwara Sacha Sauda (Chuhar Kana, Dec 1920), Gurdwara Sri Tarn Taran Sahib (Jan 1921), & Gurdwara Guru ka Bagh (near Amritsar, Jan 1921) from Mahants. 1919, S. Kartar Singh Virk protested the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, was arrested for protesting the Nankana massacre in 1921, & again in 1924 for taking part in various Akali movement demonstrations. When the judge sentenced him to β¦.., Jhabbar greeted the judge with "Sat Sri Akal," showing no fear of the British. While imprisoned, he claimed he was visited by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who gave him the strength & power to continue leading the Sikh community. Days after the national Shiromani Akali Dal party was formed on Dec 14, 1920, S. Jhabbar formalized his existing group on Dec 24, 1920, renaming it the "Akali Jatha Khara Sauda Bar" & being elected its Jathedar. Later they merged into the main Shiromani Akali Dal Party. He played an important role in the SGPC's takeover of the Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple), the holiest shrine of the Sikhs & was a key part of 1925 Sikh Gurdwaras Act. Helped the Akalis seize control of Gurdwara Panja Sahib at Hasan Abdal in November 1920, Gurdwara Sacha Sauda at Chuhar Kana in Dec 1920, Gurdwara Sri Tarn Taran Sahib in Jan 1921, & Gurdwara Guru ka Bagh near Amritsar in January 1921 from Mahants and British. After the partition of India in 1947, S. Kartar Singh Virk migrated to Habri village of Karnal district, which is in present day Kaithal district of Haryana. Kartar Singh Jhabbar remains a towering figure in Sikh history a six-foot-tall preacher, fighter, educator, and liberator of gurdwaras who stood fearlessly against both corrupt priests and the British Empire. Notable act: When priests at the Golden Temple refused entry to lower-caste converts, Jhabbar famously ran to the Akal Takht and addressed the congregation, condemning the priests for denying Karah Prasad to these converts. #singh #kaur #jatt #amritsar #majha
"Caught on camera taking bribes." That's what Narendra Modi once said about Suvendu Adhikari during the Narada Sting. Today? The same man sits in the CM chair. 29 criminal cases pending. Charges linked to hate speech, violence, intimidation & more. Still untouchable. And this isn't about one politician anymore. 46% of India's MPs have criminal cases pending against them. Maybe the system isn't broken. Maybe it's working exactly how it was designed to. #westbengal #suvenduadhikari #suvenduadhikaribjp #modi
