I found a bakery in the mountains that will hand you a five pound apple pie like it’s a completely normal request. Apple Annie’s sits inside Oak Tree Mountain in Oak Glen, a tiny apple growing town in the San Bernardino Mountains that’s been in the pie business since apples took over as the local crop back in the 1940s. Their signature is the Mile High Apple Pie, a full five pounds of apples stacked under a golden crust, sold whole to take home or by the slice if you want to test the waters first. This isn’t a light dessert stop. It’s a full production, tall enough that the bakery cases display them like trophies. I found the only place in Southern California where you press your own hard cider from a 1930s mill and I’m still thinking about it. Los Rios Rancho has been running since 1906, over 8,000 heirloom apple trees across the ranch, all organically grown. But the u-press cider experience is the part nobody talks about. You get hands-on with the actual press, historic equipment from the 1930s, and watch (or help) turn whole apples into fresh cider in real time. This is also the only cidery in SoCal that takes the process from press to ferment to bottle all on one property, so what you’re pressing is genuinely tied to what ends up in the bottle. I got on Universal’s brand new coaster before most of LA even knew it opened, and it might be the most theatrical ride entrance in the country right now. You queue Fast and Furious Hollywood Drift through an actual garage, past a spray painted mural by artist Tristan Eaton depicting the original movie’s finale street race, then load into one of four vehicles modeled after the real Fast & Furious fleet: Dom’s 1970 Dodge Charger, Han’s Nissan Skyline GT R, a Mazda RX 7, or a Toyota Supra. Each car has its own independent sound system playing that specific car’s engine noise the entire ride. Then it does something I have genuinely never felt before. Every train spins independently through a full 360 degrees while launching through four separate magnetic accelerations up to 72mph, hits an inverted dive loop, and crosses over and under the park’s Starway escalator through a transparent section of track so guests below can watch you fly by. This is officially Universal’s fastest coaster ever built and it opened this week, so if you’re into theatrical, immersive, “wow this exists” experiences, you need this on your list before the wait times catch up. I found the attraction Wisconsin Dells tried to forget about for 75 years. Cold Water Canyon was once a crown jewel shorelanding on the Wisconsin River until it abruptly shut down in 1950, no official reason given, just rumors of strange lights, odd sounds, and passengers who never made it back to the dock (the pilot's written record of that final trip vanished too). It stayed sealed for decades until 2025, when Dells Boat Tours partnered with Moment Factory (the immersive studio behind some of the most technically ambitious experiences in the industry) to reopen it as Ghost Boat. Here's how it actually works. You depart Main Landing after dark and cruise upriver on a genuinely pitch black stretch of the Wisconsin River while your guide tells you the history. Then the boat takes a sudden hidden turn into the canyon itself, where you get off and walk it on foot. Projection mapped visuals, spatialized audio, live actors stationed in the passages, and a final show moment that puts you face to face with something I will not spoil. The whole thing runs about 90 minutes. Tickets start around 36 dollars and move fast, especially later time slots when it's fully dark. Not recommended for kids under 10, and heads up, it is not wheelchair, walker, or stroller accessible since there's real uneven ground on the canyon walk. If your whole personality is "wow, this exists," follow along, because this is exactly the kind of theatrical weirdness I live for. I used a heart rate monitor to find out which Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood 2026 houses are the scariest. And which is number 1 There are 8 mazes at HHN Hollywood and I went through all with a fitness heart rate monitor graphing my peaks. The mazes are Sinners, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Ozzy Ozbourne, Stranger Things 5, Dead Deader Deadest, Killceanera, Hellraiser, Evil Dead Burn, and Terror Tram with Art the Clown. I did my best to not spoil big moments and incredible set pieces. Halloween Horror Nights is now open select nights through November 1. I used express to do all of them and highly recommend it. Please do not film in mazes. I went to opening day and some of us were lucky enough to have permission to film.
