They raised the rapists, normalized rape culture. silenced an shamed the victims. excused behaviors, ignored the signs, repeated what was done to them. Boys & girls. It was are mother's, father's, step parents, siblings, uncles, aunts, grandparents, babysitters, family friends, our friends familes, our friends friends, our priests, our teachers, our doctors, our therapist, our cops, our firefighters, our associates, are partners, judges, presidents, legal counselors, probation officers, guidance counselors, summer camp staff, boy scout leaders, girl scout leaders, everyone has a story. The consequences? victims turned into predators, victims with life long trauma, addiction, homelessness, unwanted babies, abortions, health complications, life long disease. our generation is breaking the cycle we are speaking up and speaking out. No more silence, no more excuses, no more shaming the victims, no more. children deserve to be safe. woman shouldnt fear men. we have been taught from a young age to be afraid for good reason. "cover up" "dress modest" "dont drink too much" "cover your drink" the list of expectations us as woman have to follow so men dont hurt us is astounding. its all of us trans, lgbtq+, black, white, Latino, Asian, catholic, Jewish, Islam, regardless of gender religion nationality we all have a story or know someone with a story. offenders put on a list, only to not register an reoffend. victims afraid to report out of guilt & shame and fear. our justice system fails victims of Sexual assault every single day. fear of not being believed fear of being viewed as weak, tainted or unclean. Victims ar times dont even understand they are a victim because how NORMALIZED this shit has been presented to us. Some victims block out the memory or try to forget. only to remember years later. Some victims love their abuser, some are afraid of their abuser. men are offenders so are woman. woman are victims so are men. men are less likely to report. rape and sexual assault effect woman at a higher rate then men. but truly - we dont have the real numbers because men do not report. Men were raised to be violent. To hurt woman, to control them, to overpower them, to use them. it was normalized. expected. not anymore. NO MORE.
