Our latest rescue here is Willo. Willo was brought to me by some kind neighbors who found it on the ground amongst may trees and many nests high above. We were unable to locate which nest it came out of so at a few days old, willow became one of our latest rescues. Willo is eating a special baby bird formula every 1-2 hours during the day, and sleeps about 6 hours at night. It’s kept with a heating pad on low under it. Baby birds are incredibly difficult to keep alive, but Willo is a fighter. It’s very hard to say what type of bird willow is at this stage, but according to certain characteristics it is showing, and the only local birds to this area still hatching eggs, it should be either an American goldfinch, sparrow or cardinal. It’s definitely in the songbird, oscines or passeris group. We will start feeding her cut up meal worms and crickets ina week or two. And start teaching her how to forage for food for her release into the wild in a month or so.
