6:50 p.m. WED - 9/23/26 - 🚨 MAJOR FLASH FLOODING TONIGHT IN WEST VIRGINIA, SW CORNER OF VIRGINIA, EAST KENTUCKY, NE TENNESSEE… 🚨 …1-4” OF ADDITIONAL RAIN LIKELY IN THE CIRCLED AREA BY MORNING… The Kingery Team at Mountain to Lake Realty 540-420-2030 BillyKingery.com For MOST of us, we will continue to see a gentle, soaking rain tonight as easterly and southeasterly winds run up the east side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. That same East wind is “holding” the heaviest storms west into SW West Virginia and into the coalfields of Kentucky into Wise and Lebanon in extreme SW Virginia. As upper level energy dives south and east under us tonight, the heaviest rain will pivot counterclockwise 🔄 over the Mountain Empire of SWVA near I-77 into the New River Valley tonight, falling heavy at times and not moving much due to converging winds. The light rain and drizzle elsewhere may pick up tonight in other areas as well but flooding should be limited to the far western areas into the mountains of Tennessee and western North Carolina through the night. Some spots may see 4” or more of rain where the storms stall. Outside of the flood zones another .50” to 1” of rain is expected through the night. This is the same upper level dip that will emerge over the open waters of the Atlantic and form a hurricane-like Nor’Easter for the New England states and New York City this weekend. Winds locally will be picking up tonight from the east then turn northerly Thursday which will give us some partial clearing and shut most of the steady rain off. Gusts over 25 mph are possible out of the north. #tennessee #kentucky #westvirginia #northcarolina #flashflood

[Just Posted: 7:35 a.m. Thu - 9:24/26] #noreaster #nyc “MAKE NO MISTAKE: THIS NOR’EASTER WILL BE LIKE A BIG HURRICANE IN TERMS OF EFFECTS WITH MAJOR IMPACTS INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK… “It’s a weaker version of Superstorm Sandy. Not quite as strong, but I expect major storm surge, flooding and total flooding / waves, 🌊 beach erosion, homes damaged or destroyed, falling into the water from the Outer Banks to New England through Monday!” More of my thoughts on the developing Nor’Easter and how it will impact our weather plus when the next chance of rain returns, and a look at a potential stronger cold front in my latest Patreon article: https://www.patreon.com/jameysingleton/posts/170436998 I do my best to keep my weather forecasts free and they will remain that way on my social media in a generalized nature. But forecasts are only as good as the data that's used to make them, which costs lots of money each month. At other TV stations and forecast outlets, it's no big deal, since the company picks up the tab. But I forecast independently. I prefer to go my own way in forecasting and work for myself. This means I pay all of the radar, weather alerts, and model data bills out of my own pocket. Patreon is simply a way to help offset my costs by giving you more detailed information that I don't post publicly. It's only $1/month - that's as cheap as the platform will let me price it. You'll get model updates and high res maps...basically a "behind the scenes" of my forecast process. I truly appreciate the follows on social media and the support online! Stay weather-aware!

FIND THE INTERSTATES / ROADWAYS on Radar in NC! A strong cool air wedge in causing some of the Raleigh #rdu Radar energy to bend down to the surface, picking up shiny, wet cars and trucks with the wet pavement also bouncing back the radar echos. This is rare but not as unusual as you may think during strong inversion and high humidity. #ncwx
