A kilometer-long avenue of century-old plane trees leads to what is considered the finest 18th-century château in Anjou. Begun in 1635 and expanded over the following century, the estate was conceived in the spirit of Versailles, with grand approach perspectives, a U-shaped courtyard, and formal gardens of topiary, pools, and fountains. Inside, a 24-meter gallery opens onto the park through eight French windows, while the 1780 marble salon, inspired by the Salons of War and Peace at Versailles, is regarded as one of the most exceptional 18th-century private interiors in France. A carved wooden altarpiece fills the private chapel, and an oak-paneled rotunda houses the grand dining room. Beyond the château, 304 hectares unfold with a park by Edouard André, an 18th-century orangery, a riding arena converted into a reception hall, and a private racecourse dating from 1850. All of it is offered for under $7M. Oheka Castle, the sprawling New York estate where Taylor Swift filmed her iconic ‘Blank Space’ music video, is headed to auction on October 27. Built between 1914 and 1919 for financier Otto Kahn, the French Renaissance château spans approximately 112,895 sqft across 23 acres at the highest point on Long Island, making it the second-largest private residence ever constructed in America. Designed by architects Delano & Aldrich, the 127-room estate features a grand staircase modeled after France’s Château de Fontainebleau, a ballroom with 24-foot ceilings, a library with hand-restored faux-bois walls, and 34 individually designed guest suites. The grounds were originally designed by the Olmsted Brothers, sons of Central Park creator Frederick Law Olmsted, with nine reflecting pools, three fountains, arbor archways, and European statues. Beyond Swift’s 2014 video, the castle’s screen credits include standing in as Xanadu in Orson Welles’ 1941 ‘Citizen Kane,’ appearing as a Hungarian hunting lodge in ‘Succession,’ and featuring in films with Nicole Kidman, Jack Black, Cameron Diaz, and music videos from Jennifer Lopez and Liam Payne. Celebrity weddings held on site include Kevin Jonas, Megyn Kelly, and Joey Fatone. The property underwent a $40 million restoration described as the largest private residential restoration in American history. The auction lot includes an adjacent 5.13-acre plot approved for 95 luxury condominiums. Live auction at the Dominick hotel in Manhattan. No designated starting bid.
