We’re told that removing wild horses is about protecting the land. Okay, then let’s actually look at ALL of the animals using our public lands. Because if overgrazing and damage are the concern, livestock need to be part of that conversation too. Our public lands are managed for a lot of competing interests, and the history of how we got here is complicated. We’ve spent generations deciding which animals belong, which ones don’t, and who gets to make those decisions. Maybe it’s time we started protecting the land for the sake of the land. Spending 32 nights away from home is not for the weak. 😅 Sleeping in a tent for 30 of those nights really helps you figure out what you like and dislike about a place pretty quickly. What we realized on this trip is that we need a van ASAP. 😂 Not because we don’t love tent camping. We do. In fact, my sleep score is always better when I sleep outside. But after hearing babies screaming, parents screaming, and everything else about strangers’ lives, you realize how much you need solitude. 😂 We love dispersed camping, but it’s trickier along the California coast, and we aren’t as comfortable dispersed camping in a tent in areas without established sites. If we had a van, we could sleep just about anywhere. We have a travel trailer, but the cost and inconvenience of hauling it really limits our road trips, so we just don’t use it. I personally love sleeping in my car, but my husband is not a fan, and with Nala, my small SUV gets pretty crowded. The camping system that makes my Type A self so happy. 🥰 We’ve gone through many different configurations trying to make our camping trips more efficient, and I think I’ve finally found the perfect system.
