We were within a half mile of camp, but phones all around us started blaring evacuation alerts due to a wildfire in the area. Instead of hiking another half mile and camping in the smoke, we turned around and hiked 6 miles down the mountain back to our car, cutting the trip a day short. The eight day adventure through North Cascades National Park became a seven day trek when we learned that evacuations were being issued because of wildfires in the area. The plan was to camp our last night at the Sahale Glacier Camp. Instead, we turned back around and hiked 6 miles down the mountain back to our car and headed back towards Seattle.
