This is what pilots are really doing before they go flying We are checking the weather, NOTAMS, flight plans, details about the aircraft, alternates, fuel management/planning, and airport information. The van ride to the airport is the perfect 15-20 minutes to do this. To make sure you are up to date on as much information as possible ahead of time. You can apply this no matter what stage of your career you are in. Even if you are a student pilot, make sure you are checking all these things every time before you go flying! Don’t trust your instructor to check everything for you. Do it for yourself, and do it early. Create good habits now, so that way down the line you will do the exact same thing before every flight. Month in the Life of a 25 Year old Regional Airline Pilot! 🛩️SEPTEMBER To be fair, Lubbock has a Chipotle and a Dave and Busters so maybe it's not that bad lol - those are literally my two favorite places. I think i just have bad memories from when I got stuck there from the snow storms in Texas one time and couldn't do anything lol. Also, a recent captain I flew with told me there is a university in the area that I need to check out! Plus I gotta see my cousin out there soon, so maybe I can be swayed to liking Lubbock next time, who knows. Don't count on it lol 🤣 How in the world did I get paid for 120 hours but only flew 40 hours????? With the magic of overtime, working on my days off, training, and an unfortunate sick call - it was possible! This is a recap of what my September looked likes flying a regional jet in the USA. With the next big aviation conference happening tomorrow, it's super important to remember how life-changing these networking events can be. It's inspiring to be around so many incredible people who are at the top of their game, and making a difference in the industry. Do not be the person who misses out on these conferences. Obviously don't go to your first one being like "I'm going to walk away today with my dream job"-that's the wrong mindset. The best mindset to have is "I'm going to this event to connect with like-minded individuals, make friends, and provide value". Figure out what you bring to the table, present yourself well, and go out and give it your all. If you think of all the ways you can provide value to these companies, and serve the others pilots around you - your experience will be very positive and have lasting effect on not only your career but the person you're becoming. Don't let the difficulty of landing a job make you give up on your dream. Make it a reason to bring yourself closer into the aviation community, network like crazy, and find a group of likeminded individuals who are going to push you to the next level.
