On February 25, 2026, I went in for an open myomectomy to remove one 10cm fibroid and 13 others of different sizes. I was nervous, but ready to get my life back. Everything went well… until it didn’t. I lost so much blood during surgery that I needed two blood transfusions. After I was discharged the first time, I went home thinking the hardest part was over, but then the fevers started and wouldn’t go away. I ended up being readmitted and spent 11 more days in the hospital fighting a pelvic infection. Almost a month later, I’m finally on the other side of healing, and let me tell you, the pain was no joke. If you’re considering this surgery, please make sure you have help. You will need it. Shoutout to my mom and twin sister for holding me down every step of the way, I couldn’t have done this without you! My surgeon wasn’t able to remove two small fibroids under 2cm because they were too close to blood vessels, but I’m grateful that the majority were removed.
