Long before it became known as one of Utah’s most iconic haunted attractions, the Portland Cement Works helped build the future of the Salt Lake Valley. Construction of the plant began in the early 1900s, and for decades it produced Portland cement used in roads, bridges, buildings, and other projects throughout Utah and the surrounding region. At its peak, the factory employed hundreds of workers, operating around the clock as massive kilns transformed limestone into the cement that helped shape a growing state. Like many industrial sites of its era, the work was physically demanding and dangerous. Accidents, long shifts, and harsh working conditions became part of the factory’s history. As technology advanced and the industry changed, production eventually came to an end, leaving behind the towering structures that still stand today. Rather than disappearing into history, the old Portland Cement Works found a new purpose. Today, the site is home to Fear Factory, where the preserved industrial architecture serves as a reminder of Utah’s manufacturing past. Whether you visit for the history, the architecture, or the paranormal stories, every brick and steel beam has a story to tell. Investigate this location with us on Saturday, August 8th.
