Like I said on my birthday video I wanted to start having some life again and exploring Scotland is what I love and it’s so good for the head! Cannot beat Scotland when the sun is out! Spent the day down at Balmaha , climbed up conic hill then chilled on the loch and had a swim until the sun began to set. Good times, good views and good laughs. More of this for me in between the stressful stuff ! In my cheese era 🤣 ft @hailsfreak If anyone’s got any recommendations for climbs, activities in Scotland that isn’t too far away please let me know as I want to start getting back into hiking, exploring and just getting outside more often.. even in the rain . I’ve always dreamed of having a wee wooden rowing boat that I can sit in the loch on a sunny day with a beer in hand… simple thing but always wanted it.. one day. #Scotland #balmaha #conichill

I’ve been working on something exciting and I can finally tell you ! 🙌 The Long Goodbye is my new podcast with Go Radio, launching next week, Sunday 20th September 🧠 I’ve talked openly about my own experience of dementia and my family’s journey for years. Now I wanted to open that conversation up even further. I’ll be talking to people who have lived or are living on their own dementia journeys, professionals working in the field, researchers, charities, carers, families and so many others whose lives have been touched by dementia. Real conversations about what dementia is really like, the things people don’t always talk about, the support that’s out there, the challenges we still need to change, and the hope for the future. I want this to be a place where people can listen, learn, feel supported and, above all, know that they’re not alone. It’ll be available to listen to on all major podcast platforms, wherever you normally listen to podcasts. Search ‘The long goodbye with Graeme’. And if you’d rather watch, each episode will also be available on YouTube. I’ll share that on here come Sunday. 🚨 The Long Goodbye will be out Sunday 20th September, with Go Radio . 🚨 @Go Studios Glasgow #dementia#dementia #alzheimersawareness

Been holding off posting this since February as I wasn’t sure I could do it but training has been well underway and still a long way off but I’ll be completing the half marathon one way or another ! On October 4th I’ll be running a half marathon AJ Bells great Scottish run for @Alzheimer’s Research UK a really important charity to me. Anyone who would like to donate the link is in my bio and every little helps, even a share ! As a non runner starting from scratch it’s been a challenge and I cannot get my breathing right at all. Running whenever I can and training for those up hill parts ! It’s worth noting I trained for months thinking it was 13k .. not 13 miles so that was a shock 😅🫨 I’ll update you now and then with how things are going up until the day but I can hardly breath to take my phone out. Hoping to do more charity things since I couldn’t last year for obvious reasons for other lots of other charities ☺️ Thanks in advance 🥰 @GreatRun #alzheimer #charity #marathon

Talk rubbish to your mum, get a direct answer.😂 My mum barely speaks at all these days, so to hear her responding just to agree she’d thump me absolutely made my day😅 It’s a reminder that even when someone with dementia is quiet, they’re still in there listening and taking it all in. I continue the relationship we had before all this , winding her up and giving her cheek (playfully) as I always seem to get a smile , laugh and in this case a response. I wish I had more of my mums voice before as I do forget what it sounds like and miss just having a two way conversation, but that’s something I took for granted. I know it’s very one sided and people struggle but I talk away like I’ve recieved a reply, have a moan, talk about my day etc and sometimes I get a reply but I never treat her like she can’t hear me, she just can’t show it. Keep the convo going as your voice will sound familiar even if they don’t remember who you are 😌 #dementia #alzheimers #alzheimersawareness

Day trip to Millport with our Mum to make the most of the sun ☀️ Days out might look a little different now with my Mum's Alzheimer's, and getting about with a wheelchair or managing the routine isn't without its challenges, it can definitely be stressful! …but getting her out, keeping her mind stimulated, and just enjoying fresh air together makes every single bit of effort worth it. She still takes it all in, listens, and experiences the moment with us. Life doesn't stop after a diagnosis like many think, it just looks different. We know how lucky we are to be able to get out like this, and we know everyone's situation is different. They might not have the capacity, physical strength to push a wheelchair, time or confidence, I get it.. but even if it's just a short walk down the road, there's still so much life and connection to be had. Safe to say after getting all our steps in, getting sunburnt, and not getting home until 10 pm, all of us are completely wiped out by the end of the day, my Mum included! Worth it though, more memories made ✅ #alzheimers #millport #dayout

It was a privilege to be asked by the team at BBC Morning Live to sit down and chat openly with Charlie. It’s not often I get to talk about this with someone who really understands what I’ve been through that almost mirrors my own journey ,though that is absolutely not to downplay anyone else’s experiences, as every family's journey is different. Just like the other families featured in this segment, we are sharing our stories in the hope that it makes someone else out there feel a little less alone. If this helps even one person start a difficult conversation or feel seen, then every second of it was worth it. There is still a massive misconception that dementia is strictly an old person’s disease. The reality is that it effects families in ways you can never fully understand until you are living it, impacting people of all ages. None of us asked to become carers. We didn’t get training or instructions ,but every single day, we just do the best we can, trying to do right by the people we love. It is a very tough journey, but it makes those few and far between great moments mean so much more, and you really do appreciate the smaller things in life many take for granted. A huge thank you to Charlie and the BBC Morning Live team for putting this together and giving this cause the platform it deserves. To watch the full episode, with other families and great advice from Dr Punam you can catch up on the iplayer - this was just part of the segment I was in 🙂 #dementiaawareness #carer #dementia

Re-uploaded as tiktok has muted my other, thought they would bring it back but they haven’t here as a video with audio Doll therapy has been great for my Mum. Doll therapy helps loads of people with alzheimers or dementia and really settles them. My mum still uses this along with findlay and when shes having a lot of moan, I tell her to be out a bit quiet because she’s waking the baby #dolltherapy #alzheimers #reborndoll #dementia #awareness

Alzheimer Scotland is an organization that helped my family through some of our toughest moments, which made sitting down with Jim Pearson for Episode 2 of The Long Goodbye so meaningful. This was such an interesting and eye-opening chat, pulling back the curtain on everything the charity does behind the scenes. Beyond their essential helpline, we dive deep into their nationwide education, grassroots campaigning, and the tireless work supporting families and carers right across Scotland.. and much more! I genuinely, I think this conversation will be helpful for anyone at any stage of their journey with dementia, whether you are just starting to navigate a diagnosis or looking for a better understanding of the support network available. How to tune in: Search ‘The Long Goodbye Podcast’ on any podcast platform // Watch the full visual episode over on YouTube. Or head to my profile and you can find it there. Let me know your thoughts, and please share this with someone who might need to hear this. Thanks for all the lovely messages. #podcast #dementia #alzheimers

Strange to look back on old videos popping up.. just shows how far my mum has progressed since then which is horrible to see, but at the same time glad I caught moments like this. #dementia #onthisday

This Sunday, on episode 2 of the long goodbye we discuss the help charities provide. In particular a charity that has helped and continues to help my own family throughout our journey, especially the early stages , Alzheimer Scotland I was joined by Jim Pearson, deputy chief executive of Alzheimer Scotland to discuss the help they provided, the support, campaigns , education and much more that goes on that people may not be aware of. Incredibly important charity doing amazing things 🙌 Alzheimer Scotlands helpline is 0808 808 3000 which is free and 24/7. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, advice or just emotional support. Really enjoyable chat and hoping that more funding can be put into charities who, in my opinion are helping so many carers stay afloat during such a difficult time. You can listen this Sunday on all platforms or over on YouTube. You can find this on my profile page or search the long goodbye! Really important episode. @Go Studios Glasgow #alzheimers #dementia #podcast
