When you look at the record over the last 50 years, the U.S. women’s hockey program has been one of the most consistently dominant forces in international sport. Since women’s Olympic hockey began in 1998, Team USA has won multiple gold medals and medaled in every single Olympic Games, a level of sustained excellence the men’s program simply hasn’t matched in the modern era. Invitations to the White House shouldn’t feel like an “obligation”; they should reflect respect for achievement. And by any objective competitive standard over the past half-century of global play, the women’s team has set the bar for American hockey.

In 2013, Trump tweeted that Obama’s Iran deal was “rotten” because Iran got “everything, including delay and big cash” while the US got “nothing.” That deal unfroze $1.7 billion. This week, Trump signed his own Iran agreement reportedly including a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran, nearly 200 times the amount he mocked Obama for (though that figure has been disputed — JD Vance confirmed it, then walked it back hours later). The deals aren’t identical: 2013 was a multilateral nuclear-sanctions framework, this one’s a peace agreement ending a war Trump started in February. But the core irony, mocking “big cash” for Iran then offering vastly more of it, holds up either way.
