If I had a pound for every time someone said, “Ahh, but it’s the hands holding the bit that make the difference…” But the hands are attached to the reins. The reins are attached to the bit. And the bit always applies pressure inside the horse’s mouth as soon as you use it. We need to stop talking about hands without asking how they create the control when attached to a bit. Pressure. And when sufficient, pain. Yeah I know hard to accept 🤷‍♀️ So next time you reach for a bit especially a stronger one ….. stop. Don’t ask, “Will this give me more control?” Ask, “What will this control cost my horse?” See the pressure. See the pain. Question the equipment. Don’t be bit blind. #poweredbyforageplus #equestrian #horse #bitless

This mare had laminitis last year, so the calories came down. That’s the standard advice, and on its own it’s half an answer. This year she’s a 6-year-old mare, 489 kg, schooling hard three times a week, on the water treadmill, hacking hills and competing. Her insulin was tested last week at 217, the highest it has ever been. A guessed approach would cut further: less hay, more soaking, another “metabolic” supplement on top. Her hay analysis shows why that would make things worse. At 6.2% crude protein and 7.1 MJ/kg DM, her 7.5 kg of soaked hay was supplying less than 500 g protein and around 51–52 MJ a day. Her workload needs roughly 93 MJ and at least 730 g protein. Feeding less had stopped being calorie control and become a nutrient deficit. Her stamina drops and hard lessons feel hard. The Forageplus approach does two things at once: 1. Control energy, sugar and starch, so weight and insulin stay managed. 2. Build nutrient density from what the analysis shows is missing: quality protein from several sources, essential amino acids, and minerals balanced to her forage rather than to a generic label. BUT You can only do both when you know what the forage is supplying. Without an analysis, every decision is a guess: how long to soak, how much to cut, which supplement to add. With analysis, each change has a reason. Swipe through for her full diet, where the gaps are, and what we would change. Save it for the six checks on the last slide. Read the forage, not the label. Nothing added without a reason. Get Forage Focused™ #poweredbyforageplus #horse #laminitis
