Dont do it!! Stop feeding the bears Asheville!! If you love bears please know that feeding and interacting with them is not nice at all. Yes they are friend shaped and can apparently look at you with big, brown eyes that seem to say, "love me, feed me, I wanna be a dog" but you have to resist! 🚫🥞🐻 Now for the novel if you're interested... 🙃 I've got to say that I was honored to have such a cool moment with my friend here but I don't need to do it again. A little earlier, Astrid had alerted me that a bear was around and then I was able to smell it. Idk for sure but what I think is that if I can smell a bear that it has been hanging around that spot for at least a little while. I am not claiming to be able to smell a bear every time one is nearby. I looked around, checked under the porch, etc. When I didn't find anything, I gave up and decided to relax for a bit but kept my bear spray on my belt just in case. There was a little bit of a view through an opening in the trees so I leaned against the railing, had my eyes and camera pointed up taking pics when I noticed movement below and to the right of where I was standing. Astrid was behind and to the right of me on the porch, I could hear her panting but I couldn't see her and didn't want to turn around. I don't think she had seen yet. As I was trying to Homer Simpson 😶‍🌫️ myself outta there, I said something like... 'Go inside, Weeze' which she immediately did. (Copious amounts of high fives and scritches were given later.) I backed myself inside but could see that the bear just kept on its way, seemingly unbothered so I eased back out and continued filming. We are 3 for 3 on bear encounters now. Astrid has been off leash each time but listened and acted perfectly- as expected or she would be leashed. I really couldn't ask for better a dog, y'all. 🤗 Although this was an amazing experience for me (I am sure Astrid didn't care much for it) I don't like seeing bears this comfortable around people. Dreaming of crisp fall days with endless views. 🍁 "Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart and you'll never walk alone." 🍁 The "dog days" and general rl adult things are keeping us extra busy, off trails and offline rn. We are severely underhiked but doing our best to wait patiently for fall. Neither of us excel in that particular area. 🤭🤷‍♀️ These clips are from early October last year. I think it was the 3rd. I have a particular affinity for watching AL get excited for what's coming, checking out a view and the way she climbs stairs. 🍁 This is a pretty sweet trail. 10/10 for fun. Can be rattlesnakey.
