The Saga continues… The continuance of more trauma. More reminders of a night that changed the lives of so many Sacramento families forever. We appreciate all of your messages of prayers and love since the announcement. One thing the system has learned about me is this: I am not afraid of it. I cannot be manipulated by it. I do not need to be liked by it. And I will not be silent simply because speaking the truth makes people uncomfortable. Feel free to refer to our website empactcommunity.org for a more detailed statement. As for the recent news, all I choose to say at this time is this: They have a job to do. And so do I. As a reminder, I will continue to speak on anything that causes further harm to my community, retraumatizes the victims and families I serve, or furthers the oppression of the very people systems are supposed to protect. @CBS Sacramento #kstreet #massshooting #sacramento #victimsadvocacy

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A Sacramento nonprofit hosted a town hall organized by Empact, focused on turning grief into action, with discussions on preventing domestic violence, strengthening laws, and holding agencies accountable for victim safety. Empact, a nonprofit dedicated to victim advocacy, crisis response, and legislative work, hosted the event. Founder Leia Schenk said the gathering was a response to increasing domestic violence incidents. Schenk emphasized the importance of taking action. “People are outraged for a second, and then it goes away and then we just wait for the next casualty to happen,” she said. “We have to be outraged enough to do something about it.” #sacramento #domesticviolence #shalinithakur #violenceagainstwomen #victimsadvocacy
