Why we love to train our hitters with a party hat! Right away, we noticed her arm path was getting too high on the draw back. It almost turned into a lasso over her head. When that happens, you lose access to your full range of motion and most of the power starts coming from the elbow instead of the entire body. That’s where you see hitters lose speed, lose control, and over time, put unnecessary stress on their arm. So we kept it simple and gave her something to feel aka a party hat. Now if her hand goes too high, she hits it giving her instant feed back. That awareness is what allows change to actually happen. In one hour, you can already see the difference. Not because we added more reps, but because we gave her the right feedback. The goal is to build awareness, create feel, and stack small improvements that actually translate. Use the bio to schedule a lesson today to fix your armswing!

Getting stuck in serve receive usually comes down to the one thing… your timing of your angle. As the game gets faster and milliseconds start to matter. When your hands come together too early in the middle of your body, you get stuck and now you are forced to try swing your platform to the ball, which works against slower serves. In the first rep, her hands come together before her body creates the angle, which causes her to get stuck and the ball hits her in the stomach. In the second rep, her angle is out sooner allowing her to create space between her body and her platform. Now she is able to adjust easier resulting in a perfect pass. Creating more space starts with establishing your angle earlier through your body and letting your hands come together last. If you are wanting to work on your serve receive book our clinics or pin/libero camp this summer!

If you want to become one of the best passers on the court, you build it at home first, and that starts with your angles. Wall work is where you can slow the game down and lock in on the details. You are not worried about the outcome, you are focused on your platform, your shoulders, your footwork, and creating the correct angle early. That is what shows up when the game speeds up. In just this one passing routine, you are getting 200 quality reps where your full attention is on your fundamentals. That is 200 chances every single day to clean up your angles and build consistency. 200 reps a day turns into 1,400 reps a week. 1,400 reps a week turns into 5,600 reps a month. 5,600 reps a month turns into 67,200 reps a year. That is the difference. Most athletes are not even close to that level of intentional work. They rely only on team practices and hope it is enough. The athletes who reach the next level do not hope. They build their game rep by rep, day after day, long before anyone is watching. At the highest level, passing is not about forcing the ball to your midline. It is about creating your angle early and letting the ball come to your platform. If you watch high level volleyball, you will see it constantly. That is why we train it this way. Edge Daily Passing Homework for Angles 50 Right Hand Ball Drops Hold the ball in your right hand, drop it straight down, and trap it with your platform near your right knee. Step to the ball and drop your shoulder to create the angle early. 50 Left Hand Ball Drops Same on the left side. Trap the ball near your left knee while dropping your right shoulder and controlling your platform. 50 Right Hand Ball Rolls Roll the ball slightly up a wall, take two controlled steps while staying low, and drop your left shoulder to set the angle. Keep your posture strong. 50 Left Hand Ball Rolls Repeat on the left side. Roll with your left hand, take two shuffles, and drop your right shoulder to finish with a clean platform. If your goal is to play at the next level, your habits have to match that goal. Drop a 🏐 below if you want more at home drills to help you get to that next level.
