As a Dutch person, "ik hou van je" really feels heavy. 🧡 We don't throw it around the way English speakers say "I love you". It's not something we say to our siblings or our friends. (Maybe we even should…) So we take the long road: ik vind je leuk, ik ben verliefd op je, ik mis je. And only when we really mean it: ik hou van je. So if a Dutch person says it to you, they mean it. Which one are you at right now? Be honest 👇 " " " #learndutch #speakdutch #nederlandsleren #dutchteacher #dutchphrases

As a Dutch person, I still get a tiny shock when someone my age calls me “u”. 😅 Suddenly I feel 80. “U” is for the gemeente, the doctor and older people you don’t know. “Jij” is for friends, colleagues and pretty much every brand, Albert Heijn included. And the moment someone says “zeg maar jij”, switch. And stay switched. Not sure? Start with u. Nobody minds a bit too polite. Have you ever been told “zeg maar jij”? “ “ “ #learndutch #speakdutch #dutchculture #nederlandsleren #dutchteacher

Online, everyone assumes I’m American. Until I say one sentence in Dutch. 😂 And the funny part: I live in Spain, so in real life people don’t think I’m Dutch either. Where do people think YOU are from online? Tell me 👇 “ “ “ #learndutch #dutchteacher #nederlandsleren #livingabroad #speakdutch
