Throwing it back to the day sweet Harley went home. 🤎🤍 This gorgeous KB chocolate parti Yorkshire Terrier joined an amazing family where she gets to spend every day with her big brother, Bentley. I often get asked what my favorite color is. Outside of the traditional black and tan, CHOCOLATE is definitely next. 😍🍫 You can never go wrong with a little chocolate drop in your life. 😅 Fun fact: Chocolate Yorkies aren’t a separate breed or a “designer” color. The chocolate coat comes from a naturally occurring recessive gene at the B locus (TYRP1). A puppy must inherit two copies of the recessive chocolate allele (bb) one from each parent, to express the chocolate phenotype. Dogs with BB or Bb won’t be chocolate, although Bb dogs are carriers and can pass the gene to their offspring. Genetics is predictable; when paired responsibly with health testing, chocolate Yorkies can be just as healthy and structurally sound as traditional-colored Yorkies. ##riverregionyorkies##yorkie##dogbreeder##puppy##fyp

One of my goals as a breeder is to help break the misguided stigma that color-bred dogs cannot be both structurally sound and healthy. Coat color and quality are not mutually exclusive. Through responsible breeding, health testing, pedigree research, and careful selection, it’s absolutely possible to produce dogs that excel in health, temperament, structure, and genetics while also displaying beautiful, unique colors. A great example is the Chocolate Sable Parti Yorkshire Terrier. Phenotypically, this dog displays a rich chocolate coat with white parti markings and sable shading. Genotypically, a typical genetic makeup could include bb at the B locus (chocolate), sp/sp at the S locus (parti), Ay/at or Ay/Ay at the A locus (sable), ky/ky at the K locus (allowing the A locus to express), and E/E or Em/E at the E locus. Together, these genes create the unique appearance of a Chocolate Sable Parti Yorkie. Understanding the difference between genotype and phenotype is essential because a dog’s appearance is only one piece of the genetic picture. At the end of the day, responsible breeding isn’t about chasing color, it’s about producing healthy, well-structured dogs with predictable genetics and excellent temperaments. #riverregionyorkies #yorkie #dogbreeder #puppy #fyp

People often think breeding is the best job in the world because all they see are the puppies. And yes, there are beautiful moments. But the reality of breeding is so much more than that. When you truly love animals, breeding can take an emotional toll that most people never see. There are sleepless nights, emergencies, heartbreak, losses, constant worry, and the weight of being responsible for lives that depend entirely on you. And then there’s the financial side that people rarely talk about: vet bills, health testing, supplies, emergencies, and everything in between. No matter what is happening in your personal life, there are no breaks. The dogs still need to be fed, cleaned, monitored, loved, and cared for. They don’t understand grief, stress, or exhaustion. They only know they depend on you. So while breeding may look easy from the outside, the reality is very different. To the breeders who truly put their animals first: I see you. We’ve officially started the weaning process! The puppies are transitioning from milk to mush and are doing exceptionally well. Since only their canines have erupted so far, they’ll remain on softer foods for now. Today was a special day. I got to deliver Nyla to her new family and reunite with her big sister, Nissa, one of my puppies from a year ago. ❤️ There is nothing more rewarding than watching families come back and trust me again when they are ready to add another member to their home. My goal has never been just to sell a puppy. It’s to make the entire experience so smooth, enjoyable, and supportive that when the time comes for a second puppy, coming back feels like the natural choice. Seeing Nissa thriving and welcoming her new little sister reminded me why I love what I do. In the midst of everything, we are still raising pup. These 7 little munchkins are from Delicious/Wilbur. They are 3 weeks and they have the most beautiful faces and large/ wide-set eyes🤩 . Just a perfect output from the mesh of their mom’s Korean Line, and dad’s Russian Line🧬. These babies will be the epitome of structural integrity, especially for colored Yorkies.
