Muscle Gain Without Exercise? A new randomised controlled trial suggests that creatine supplementation may increase lean body mass and strength, even without exercise. Researchers at Texas A&M University studied 64 adults aged 45–65 over 12 weeks. Participants taking 10 g of creatine monohydrate daily without structured exercise gained approximately 1.1 kg of lean tissue, alongside improvements in muscular strength and endurance. The findings suggest creatine may have benefits beyond its established role in exercise performance, particularly for maintaining muscle mass with ageing. However, DXA-measured lean mass includes water, so the findings don’t necessarily establish an equivalent increase in muscle tissue. Research credit: Chun J, Liu Y, Kibler GL, et al. (2026). Effects of creatine supplementation with and without exercise and diet intervention on body composition, cognitive function, and markers of health in middle-aged and older adults. Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, 23(S1), 2716273. DOI: 10.1080/15502783.2026.2716273 #TheCosmeticNews #Creatine #MuscleMass #MedicalResearch #HealthyAgeing

Woman Dies After Three Cosmetic Procedures in Brazil Jéssica Conceição da Cruz died in Rio de Janeiro on 19 September 2026, following complications from three cosmetic procedures performed together: rib contouring, liposuction and abdominoplasty. The procedures took place on 14 July. She was discharged the following day but subsequently developed severe abdominal pain and fever. After returning to hospital, she remained admitted for 67 days before her death. Her death certificate identified faecal peritonitis resulting from an intestinal perforation. Faecal peritonitis occurs when intestinal contents leak into the abdominal cavity, triggering severe inflammation and potentially life-threatening infection. Brazilian police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, including how the intestinal injury occurred and whether medical negligence was involved. Local reporting identifies this as the third patient death under investigation following procedures at the same clinic group. 🇦🇺 AUSTRALIA AT THE FOREFRONT OF A MAJOR MELANOMA BREAKTHROUGH. Landmark Phase 3 results being presented at ESMO 2026 (European Society for Medical Oncology) show that a personalised mRNA cancer vaccine, combined with pembrolizumab, reduced the relative risk of melanoma recurrence or death by 42% compared with pembrolizumab alone. The international INTerpath-001 trial involved 1,137 patients with surgically removed, high-risk melanoma across 157 clinical trial sites. At two years, 82.2% of patients receiving the combination remained recurrence-free, compared with 70% receiving pembrolizumab alone. The investigational treatment, intismeran autogene, is individually manufactured using genetic information from each patient’s tumour to help the immune system recognise cancer-specific targets. And we absolutely love seeing Australia represented so prominently in this landmark research. 🇦🇺 A huge congratulations to Professor Georgina Long AO, Global Principal Investigator and Chair of the Trial Steering Committee, and the Australian researchers, clinicians and institutions contributing to this international effort. Australian clinical trial centres involved: 🇦🇺 Melanoma Institute Australia — NSW 🇦🇺 Westmead Hospital — NSW 🇦🇺 One Clinical Research — WA 🇦🇺 Princess Alexandra Hospital — QLD 🇦🇺 Paula Fox Melanoma & Cancer Centre — VIC 🇦🇺 Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Parkville Cancer Clinical Trials Unit — VIC Special recognition to Professor Long and the team at Melanoma Institute Australia and the University of Sydney for their leadership. Australia has one of the world’s highest melanoma burdens, and seeing Australian melanoma expertise helping drive advances in global cancer treatment is something worth celebrating. This remains an investigational treatment requiring regulatory approval, and longer-term survival outcomes are still being studied. Research and acknowledgements: INTerpath-001 Phase 3 clinical trial (NCT05933577), ESMO Congress 2026, Abstract LBA1. Professor Georgina Long AO and international study investigators. Melanoma Institute Australia, University of Sydney, MSD (Merck & Co.) and Moderna. Thanks to all participating trial centres, research teams and patients. #Melanoma #MelanomaResearch #CancerResearch #ESMO2026 #AustralianResearch
