I only fully resumed work yesterday, even though our store has been open since the 5th of January. It feels good getting back to the usual order after taking a little time off for some small oblee and festivities. There’s something refreshing about returning to routine. Work and being productive is something I truly enjoy. Even if I had a million dollars sitting in my account, I would still open my shop at the usual time and close at the regular. For me, work is more than just making money, it’s a means of expression allowing me the opportunity to contribute my talents and skills to the working of the world. As we all settle into our different work routines for the year, let us always remember that there is dignity in labour. Take whatever is putting food on your table seriously. Whether you’re a banker, doctor, bricklayer, janitor, or doorman, it’s all honorable as long as it’s honest work. Don’t allow anyone to shame you for what you do to survive; the same people will not look your way when you go broke or hungry. Work gives life meaning, purpose, and order. Idleness, on the other hand, robs a person of productivity, focus, discipline, and structure. Depression and temptation easily find their way into an idle mind. No wonder they say an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. So as we all resume work for the year, I pray that we do not labour in vain. I pray for an increase in our yield, elevation in our businesses, and promotion in our work. May God bless all our efforts this year and crown them with greater success. Amen.
