Today, I hosted the Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, Hon. Fikirini Jacobs, alongside the Principal Secretary for Transport, Mr. Mohamed Daghar, CBS, who was represented by the Director of Administration, Mr. Ibrahim Abdi. The key stakeholders, National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) were led by County Commissioners from Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Taita Taveta counties. The NGAO TVET Marketing and Sensitization Engagement, held at Kenya Coast National Polytechnic, focused on giving young people hope through the diverse skilling, certification and employment pathways offered by TVET. In his remarks, PS Fikirini challenged NGAO officers to intensify grassroots mobilization of young people for skilling, particularly in view of the numerous industries already operating and emerging across the Coast region. He emphasized the importance of preparing local youth with the requisite competencies to take advantage of employment opportunities arising from these investments. I particularly highlighted the flexibility introduced through modular Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), which enables young people to acquire specific occupational competencies through shorter training programmes. I also urged NGAO officers to proactively identify young people who possess practical skills acquired through experience, but lack formal certification and facilitate their registration for assessment and certification under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). These pathways open opportunities for those who may have missed conventional education progression or are unable to undertake lengthy training programmes. Beyond expanding access, the TVET sector is strengthening industry-led training, both locally and internationally, to ensure that skilling responds to actual workforce demand. Engagements have already commenced with the Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery in Lamu towards developing customized, industry-driven training programmes aligned with the project's specific occupational and workforce requirements. This approach seeks to position Kenyan youth to compete for emerging opportunities in technical fields. This philosophy of training with an end in mind equally extends to international employment opportunities. Through the MoU between the State Department for TVET and Consolidated Bank of Kenya, customized loan facilities are creating opportunities for young people, particularly those from humble backgrounds, to finance pre-departure requirements for overseas employment. Financial circumstances should not stand in the way of qualified and skilled young Kenyans pursuing legitimate employment opportunities abroad. I appreciate PS Fikirini, PS Daghar through his representative, the County Commissioners, NGAO leadership and all stakeholders for their participation and commitment to this important agenda. I also commend the Marketing Team from the State Department for TVET for their dedicated coordination and efforts in advancing TVET awareness and outreach. The responsibility now rests with the NGAO leadership across the five counties to translate this engagement into deliberate grassroots mobilization, connecting young people to appropriate training, assessment and certification opportunities. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that as industries grow and employment opportunities emerge, young people across the country possess the competencies and qualifications to take their rightful place in the workforce, locally and globally.#fypシ @Kenyacoastnationalpoly @State Department for Tvet
