When people hear the last name “Curry,” the first person they think of is Stephen Curry. Stephen has transformed basketball with his revolutionary three point shooting, won multiple NBA championships, earned MVP awards, and become one of the most recognizable athletes in the world. Because of those accomplishments, it is easy to forget that his younger brother, Seth Curry, has also built an impressive NBA career. Even so, Seth has spent nearly his entire basketball journey being viewed as “Stephen Curry’s brother,” making it seem as though he has always finished in second place. From a young age, comparisons between the two brothers were unavoidable. Growing up in the same basketball family, with former NBA player Dell Curry as their father, both boys had high expectations placed on them. Stephen quickly became the national sensation, starring at Davidson College before becoming an NBA superstar. Seth, despite having undeniable talent, followed a much more difficult path. He transferred colleges, went undrafted in the NBA Draft, and spent time proving himself in the G League before finally earning a permanent roster spot. While Stephen was collecting trophies, Seth was simply trying to secure minutes on an NBA team. Statistics also contribute to the perception that Seth is constantly in second place. Stephen is considered by many to be the greatest shooter in basketball history. Every three pointer he makes adds to records that may never be broken. Seth, meanwhile, has quietly become one of the most efficient three point shooters in NBA history himself. His career three point percentage ranks among the league’s best, yet that achievement rarely receives the same attention because his brother continues to redefine what elite shooting looks like. If Seth had a different last name, his accuracy would likely be celebrated much more often. Media coverage has only strengthened the shadow surrounding Seth. Television broadcasts frequently introduce him by mentioning his relationship to Stephen. Headlines often focus on family matchups rather than Seth’s own performances. Even after scoring twenty or thirty points in a game, conversations often shift toward how his performance compares with his older brother’s accomplishments. Instead of being recognized solely for his own success, Seth is constantly measured against one of the greatest players to ever play the sport. However, describing Seth as “second place” should not be mistaken for saying he has failed. Reaching the NBA is something only a tiny percentage of basketball players ever accomplish. Remaining in the league for years while becoming one of its most reliable shooters is an achievement that deserves respect. The challenge for Seth is that his career exists alongside a player whose accomplishments are historically extraordinary. Almost anyone would appear to come in second when compared to Stephen Curry. Ultimately, Seth Curry’s story is one of perseverance rather than disappointment. He has worked through setbacks, earned his place in the NBA, and built a career many athletes dream about. Yet because of his brother’s legendary status, public perception often places Seth in the background. His career serves as a reminder that greatness can exist in more than one member of a family, even if one sibling’s spotlight shines so brightly that it makes the other’s achievements harder for the world to see.
