Finally saw a Bobbit worm while @divingromblon . This has been high on my must see critter wishlist because it looks pretty with its rainbow / iridescent/ holographic body and at the same time scary looking mouth! The Bobbit worm, also known as the sand striker or Eunice aphroditois, gets its name from a famous 1993 court case in which Lorena Bobbitt famously cut off her husband’s manhood while he slept. According to Lorena, her husband John, abused her which led her to do such a thing. 🔪 The Bobbit worm, which can grow up to 3 meters in length, is a predatory species found in the ocean’s sandy floors, where it buries itself and ambushes unsuspecting prey with lightning-fast strikes.
