Today, on the final and ninth day of Navarātri, we are reciting the Devīmayī from the Durgā Saptaśatī. This is a stuti, meaning verses of praise, dedicated to the Goddess. The Sanskrit describes the Goddess’s body as being formed of all words and sounds. Therefore every word we speak, or every mantra we recite, is an expression of Devī’s very essence. Today, we completed our personal recitation sādhana of the full Durgā Saptaśatī text, 700 verses divided over nine days. It is traditional to recite this Devīmayī at the very end of the pāṭha or recitation of the text. Today is also our final session of Śrī Durgā Saptaślokī chanting with our beautiful group. We have enjoyed sharing this composition with you all, which captures the essence of the Durgā Saptaśatī in 7 verses.
