Storytime behind the most-viewed video on my YouTube channel. What’s interesting about this video is I never thought it would take off as much as it did. That being said, I’m going to let you in on a secret: if you post a decent drum video of an Israel song… it's getting views. There, that’s the secret. . This Sunday I was actually intentionally playing very soft, if you look for that you can see it, my body language and facial expresssions are very engaged, but my actual playing is very subdued. . Two things were happening on that Sunday. Number one, it was a “Celebration of Education” service where we had tons of guests, city officials etc. and we also had just moved the stage and the drumset was completely open, no shield, nothing. So with both of those things in mind, I was very mindful of the volume because we had no baseline for how it would sound. . So this was just interesting to me and shows once again, that it’s not always about the gear. This is a one-shot gopro video (which is not my normal YouTube style) and I was playing very laid back, and its the most watched video on my page, ha. Again, the song choice I would still say has the most to do with it, but clean execution by all band members and vocalists, decent mix (I’m not a mix engineer and I barely mix my drums as you can tell) will do a lot! . So be encouraged! You don’t have to have it all to execute well. Pursue excellence with what you have, and it will show!
