If you love something or someone – let them know. ❤️ The wise old oak that stood watch over Ben and I for so many years has fallen. It could have lived another 600 years, but the quiet stream beside it had slowly been eroding its roots. We hadn’t noticed, until it was too late. It’s strange, the depth of grief one can feel for a tree – for a piece of landscape that’s felt like home. I’m grateful I told it I loved it, every time I passed. And I believe it loved us back. . . . . #naturecore #nature #dogsoftiktok #trees #naturehealingvibes
We belong everywhere. The queer world can often seem so city-centric and brightly coloured, not the mud under the nails, leafy, earthy world that I feel most myself in. I grew up gay in rural England. I didn’t actually meet an out queer person until I was 18 years old and had moved to the city. I tried for a really long time to fit into the city, and I did, eventually, but nothing could stop the way I felt nature calling me, quietly. I rediscovered flowers, and started making a career out of them. But I always dreamed of going back, of resignifying the small patch of countryside I grew up in - because being gay, queer, trans, is whatever you want it be, however you want to be. Whoever you are, wherever you’re from, the landscape that you yearn for, is yours. Our lives shouldn’t be squeezed into certain places that are safe to exist. We belong everywhere . . . . . #naturecore #gay #gaytiktok #queertok #gardening
Go outside and look at the oaks, the apples and the hawthorn. The west country is experiencing a mast year - is your area too? A mast year is when trees work together to create a surplus of nuts, fruit and seeds, overwhelming the area. They happen every 3-10 years. No one knows for certain why, but it's thought to be a survival strategy to ensure the squirrels don't get everything before it's had time to grow. The following years they produce less to keep the squirrel numbers in check. But not every year needs be so productive. So whether you're in a mast year of your own, or perhaps a slower, more fallow period, lean into it. Know that everything is just as it is meant to be. 'Mast' is from the old english 'mast', meaning the nuts of the forest are covering the ground. . . . . #naturecore #gardening #wholesome #hopecore
