NON WOVEN 4-1/2 X 7/8 FLAP DISC Our premium surface conditioning flap discs are available in coarse, medium, and fine material varieties. Surface conditioning flap discs are used for blending deburring & cleaning materials such as stainless steel, alloyed steel, non ferrous metals & alloys as well as plastic & fiberglass. The max RPM on these is 13,300 & are to be used on an angle grinder. WHAT GRIT IS EACH SURFACE CONDITIONING DISC? A brown coarse 4-1/2 x 7/8 surface conditioning disc finishes like a 60 - 80 grit. A maroon medium 4-1/2 x 7/8 surface conditioning disc finishes like a 120 - 180 grit. A blue fine 4-1/2 x 7/8 surface conditioning disc finishes like a 280 - 360 grit. WHAT IS A HIGH DENSITY (HD) FLAP DISC? High density flap discs are 2X the size of a normal flap disc and can last 2-3X the life of a normal flap disc due to its powerful performance & extra material that is jam packed into this flap disc. When you receive this you will honestly be blown away by how THICC it is .....That's right! Two extra C's! WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TYPE 27 AND TYPE 29 FLAP DISCS? Type 27 flap discs have a flat surface to them. Type 29 flap discs an angled or pitched surface. In other words, Type 27 is flat and type 29 is not flat, its angled. We carry type 27 flap discs because that is the most common disc type and we feel is more versatile when fabricating. What right angle grinder is the best for sanding & removing welds? There are two main right angle grinders that we recommend that are fantastic quality and are only separated by a cord! We recommend one cordless grinder and one corded 4-1/2" right angle grinder. Cordless Makita XAG04Z goes for around $ 120 and is a GAME changer for people looking for a cordless 4.5" right angle grinder. Corded Makita 9557PB Grinder goes for about $ 85 and is what we would use for the money!

2" x 72" Sanding Belts for Finishing & Sharpening What is Finishing & Sharpening? Profiling is the development of the basic shape of a cutting instrument. Sharpening involves giving an edge to the profiled piece of steel/metal that was previously profiled and shaped. What does an X or J weight mean? Abrasives are adhered to a backing material. That backing material's thickness (related to its flexibility) is categorized by the alphabet. Backings closer or rated as 'A' are substantially more flexible than the stiffest 'Y' weight backing you'll find on our site. Backings with an 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D', 'E', or 'F' backing are all considered paper backings. 'E' and 'F' weight backings are typically used to make belts as they are the most durable paper backings available (typically found in the wood industry) though still much less durable/thick than the full or partial synthetic backings like an 'X' or 'Y' weight. Typically various 'X' and 'Y' weight backings are used in metal working as the standard. Y weights are very sturdy and typically full synthetic poly materials versus some 'X' weights often being a cotton-poly blend material to allow for greater flexibility. J Flex refers to an even greater flexible backing material that is often used without a contact wheel and some slack in the belt so it can softly contour rounder shapes (e.g. a wooden handle). WHY 2" X 72" SANDING BELTS? 2" x 72" sanding belts offer the best middle ground between heavy duty grinding and finer detail work blades can require—e.g. sharpening or detailed handle work. This makes the 2" x 72" size the most common belt size for knife making for profiling, bevel grinding, detailed edge sanding, and sharpening. How do most knifemakers use 2" x 72" aluminum oxide belts? Aluminum oxide is a general purpose abrasive material—it is a less expensive material that ceramic or zirconia alumina. Alunimum oxide is often called alumina in various other applications and is used in a wide array of abrasive products due to its characteristic high hardness. It's also used widely in these applications because the more expensive materials, ceramic and zirconia alumina, are often not needed in finer grits than ...
