There is a misconception that those of us who practice Isese, the traditions of our ancestors, are somehow uneducated, impoverished, uncivilized, or disconnected from the modern world. But our devotion to Ifa and Orisa does not define our level of education, our profession, our accomplishments, or our place in society. Among the children of Ifa and Orisa are healthcare professionals, educators, entrepreneurs, scholars, attorneys, multidisciplinary artists, musicians, actors/actresses, athletes, celebs and individuals from countless walks of life. We serve our communities, pursue our dreams, raise our families, and contribute meaningfully to society while remaining deeply connected to our ancestral traditions. We can be educated and traditional. Professional and spiritual. Modern in our lifestyles while remaining rooted in the wisdom of our ancestors. And let us never forget that our brothers and sisters who live humbly in our “hoods/villages” are no less worthy of dignity and respect. Wisdom is not measured by degrees, wealth, or social status. Our traditions are not something we must abandon to be considered successful, respectable, and enlightened. I am proud to be an Onisese. Not because of what I have accomplished, but because of the values I strive to uphold being humility, integrity, respect, gratitude, and iwa pele (good character) Our roots do not limit our growth. They are part of what grounds us as we grow. 🌴 Ìṣẹ̀ṣe làgbà. Àṣẹ! 🙏🏾 #iseselagba #isese #onisese #Ifa #Orisha
