This is me leaving Port McNeill last week. My charter to Newton Cove was a pretty epic one: rugged terrain, beautiful mountains, occasional low weather, and a long solo leg that allowed me to enjoy the views by myself. That’s how we do it on busy days out here! Twelve hour work days are common in the summer. . Port McNeill looked like a fun small town. It was my first time in, and I knew they had fuel, but as I circled overhead to assess the landing area, the seaplane dock did not look obvious. Usually there are signs, or you can see the fuel pumps like at a gas station, but there wasn’t anything obvious on this one. After landing, I taxied into the marina and found the seaplane dock, which did indeed have the hoses for avgas and Jet A out on the dock. The employees were super friendly (aren’t all Canadians? 🤣), and the weather was gorgeous: cool, calm, and drizzly, and it made me glad that I had my old pea coat, even on a day in late July. You can tell I had to refuel in the rain just looking at my hair in this video. Standing on the dock, though, the breeze that came down the mountains brought with it the smell of the cedars. It was heavenly. . I need to make time to visit there again, to spend a night up there. Who knows what trouble is to be had 🤩 . Happy Friday everyone.
