I have never once gone back through a long Slack thread to write up the decision buried in it - and I wasn’t going to start with this one! Amazon Quick Desktop launches in preview today. I’ve been using it at work for a few weeks, and this is the use case that sold me on it. It’s a desktop AI assistant from AWS that connects to Slack, email, and your local files. Your data stays on your machine, and it supports MCP so you can plug in your own tools and sources. For this demo I filled a Slack channel with over 70 messages of messy database notes, weighing up Postgres vs DynamoDB for a new service, costs, benchmarks, a lot of going back and forth. I asked Quick to turn it into an Architecture Decision Record, and added the AWS Knowledge MCP so it could check my AWS-specific claims against the live docs. It pulled the cost comparison together, organized the access patterns, and caught an outdated RDS limit I had in my notes, then flagged the discrepancy right in the ADR. Quick Desktop just launched and the AWS Knowledge MCP is open source.
