The truth is, running breaks down muscle. And the more you run, the more you break down. And the more you break down, the more you need to rebuild. The more you need to rebuild, the more protein you need to consume. Maybe tack on sub par rest and recovery. That’s why so many lifelong runners end up with a lot of musculoskeletal issues later in life. But with only 1-2 short gym sessions a week and targeting .8-1 g/lb of bodyweight worth of protein each day, you can build the lean mass to help protect your body long term. By building a reserve of lean mass you can also get through some of your higher training blocks, lose a little, and gain it back post event (not post season). More durability, better glucose management, and you might even be impressed with what you see in the mirror. If you want our go to gym sessions, DM us with STRONG and we’ll send those over asap. #running #runultra #runnerforlife #runstrong #trilife

Pretty simple. More muscle 💪 means more mitochondria. More mitochondria means more calories burned at rest. As an added bonus, other than storing glucose (glycogen) in your liver, your lean muscle is an expandable glucose sink. This means the more muscle you have the better you handle glucose and the less insulin your body has to produce to keep the levels in your blood stable. It’s a win win. To hear the full conversation check out the latest episode of the Coaches on Couches Podcast and give us a follow if you’re a time crunched athlete or using endurance sports as a part of a healthy lifestyle. #cyclinglife #runner #triathletes #coachesoncouches #podcast

When @lizhallfun came to us over a decade ago as a pharmacy resident wanting to qualify for the Boston Marathon, she had already been training for 5 years and had dropped about 45 min off her marathon times. But, she was still over 30 min from a qualifying time. Up front we had to tell her this wasn’t a one year process. And she didn’t bat an eye. She has always been in it for the long haul and not just checking a box or two. With all the life changes, her growth hasn’t been linear either. Another great consideration for anyone looking to achieve big things. For the full conversation, check out the latest episode of Coaches on Couches on your favorite podcasting outlet. There are a ton of great tips from Liz herself on how she stays motivated, focused, and constantly goal oriented. #podcast #enduranceathlete #runner #triathlete #lifestyle
