In 2013, Dolly appeared on @queenlatifah show. She did this interview, she rapped and she performed Miss you, Miss me, with her guitar, live. It was a wonderful show. Dolly felt so comfortable she was fun and funny and looked so dang pretty. May we all go back to 2013, for a bit, when Dolly was full of projects, full of joy and we had so many more years ahead together. If I could, believe me I would invent a time machine and I would take us all back to 2013 (and to 1985, for THAT concert, and then to 2023 for the Rockstar era, and oh well). • #dollyparton • #queenlatifah

Train, train wasn’t written by Dolly but by Shorty Medlocke and was released in 1979 on his album Strikes. In 1999, Dolly added Train, train to her album The grass is blue and then sang the song on her appearance at The Original Austin City Limits Performance (season 26) that aired in January, 2001 (go watch it!). And of course, Dolly made Train, train her own. @laineywilson loved Dolly since she was a kid and she has talked about how she not just sang her songs but studied Dolly in full. If you see Lainey’s career trajectory, you can see Dolly’s blueprint everywhere. And I am so dang proud of Lainey bc she was this smart and has the talent to follow suit. Lainey has that inner strength when she sings that truly moves you. And bluegrass Dolly is core Dolly to me. If Lainey would have also sang I’m gone, I would have had to sail away from my own tears. Dolly at Dollywood on opening weekend, in 2018. She was getting ready to sing Peace Train. And this is the level of comfort of her on stage, in front of an audience, with a group of musicians while mics weren’t working. She wasn’t going to screw it up. She was gonna take her time. She was in her element. She was joking. She was a natural. And she was at home. Always. We were so dang lucky to be alive at the same time as her. And if I had been there that day, when she finally got all the mics connected and sang, I would have simply imploded. That’s why I wasn’t there. And I’m sad. I’m grateful but I also know there are no more opening weekends to look forward to. And boy, it hurts. • #dollyparton • #dollywood
