the only B I know stands for Bianca 😂 But actually — these four gap years were insanely difficult. I questioned myself. There wasn’t just Plan B — I had Plans C-Z ready too. It all worked out. I get to be in a program to train to become a physician AND a scientist. And the gap years allowed me to really dig deep into why and how I want to pursue this path. I also got to save up and make the time to freeze my eggs before medical school so that I could have more options and not need to stress as much about my biological clock, given that I took extra years to figure it out. Freezing is not a guarantee, but it is an investment for more potential for fertility than not freezing at all. While I froze my eggs at 26, which is early, it was what was best for me. I entered medical school knowing that this program is my entire priority. But who knows, life happens - things change! It’s a good insurance policy :) During my gap years, I felt like I was lost and off course. Before and during most of college, I had every intention of going straight to medical school. Midway through, I realized my love for research and decided to give it a year after college to avoid applying while working and studying in college (both full time). I didn’t plan for it, but I also wanted to see my research through, and my life circumstances happened to align for it to make the most sense for me to take four gap years. I intended to only take 1!!! Most imporantly, these gap years emphasized my love for science AND medicine in ways I would not have understood as deeply without them. Taking this time taught me life skills and things about myself that I now have in med school to lean on, and I am so grateful. So here I am! Documenting my journey #roadtomdphd and reflecting on what worked, what I loved, what I miss, and what I am grateful for. This account is the world through my lens, come join for the ride 🤍 it’s a long one…appx 8 years! #medstudent #medicalschool #medschoollife #mstp #premed #premedjourney #gapyears
