Happy October! It’s officially Scaredy Cats season. And to kick things off, my girl Fig is being crowned as King Cat, in honor of her slaying chemo like a boss ❤️ For the rest of the month, YOUR cats will be my Mewses! Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit from my IG post!! The next painting is very silly and I love it so stay tuned! 🕷️🕸️ Also thank you to all my friends, family, and coworkers who helped me navigate chemo vs. surgery vs. both for Fig. I can’t even fully articulate how torturous making this decision was for me over the past few weeks. I’ll go into more detail at some point. This has been a whirlwind month for me and Fig. I’m sharing a lot of detail here to raise as much awareness as possible about feline mammary cancer (the cat equivalent of breast cancer); Fig is SO STRONG and SUCH A BADASS and I’m so lucky and grateful that her cancer was caught early. Senior cats are more susceptible to this type of cancer (Fig is 13). In dogs, these tumors have a ~50% chance of being cancerous. In cats though, it’s closer to ~90%. I’m genuinely so inspired by Fig. She may be older, but she has so much more life to enjoy and churus to devour and pickles to cuddle and embroidered arm chairs to scratch (scratch my embroidery as much as you want Fig!!!!). I hope my story can help anyone else going through something similar — and maybe even help you catch this early in your own cat. Pet their bellies regularly and check for lumps! Cats who were spayed early are far less likely to develop this type of cancer.
