For years, we have heard from people with eating disorders, families, clinicians and services that eating disorders appear to be affecting more people than ever before. The latest UK data suggests those concerns may be well founded. We now estimate that around 3.5 million children, young people and adults in the UK (1 in 20) are likely living with an eating disorder. This is a significant increase from our previously estimated figure of 1.25 million people, calculated in 2017. Whilst the two figures cannot be directly compared due to methodological differences, we believe that the prevalence of eating disorders has increased dramatically. We're calling on Governments to take action to increase support across the UK. They must make sure that every person affected can get the help they need.
