Why does your toddler seem to whine…all.the.time? Or, do they go “boneless” when you try to move them somewhere they don’t want to go? Well, toddlers don’t have the vocabulary yet to describe how they feel or what they want, so instead, they use their bodies and their voice to whine, scream, and cry. Toddlers are also at a very important developmental stage where they are building their sense of independence and self-esteem. When what YOU want them to do interferes with what THEY want to do, there is often conflict. So, what to do as a parent? Make it a game! Whether it is cleaning up toys, brushing teeth, or getting dressed, “gamifying” the task helps toddlers see it as something that they want to do, not as something that you want them to do. Comment below, what’s your best tip when it comes to this? Video Credit: @Keira Mulligan

Daylight saving time is coming, and many parents turn to melatonin to help their kids adjust to the time change. But here’s the thing: melatonin supplements aren’t regulated by the FDA like prescription medications, and we still don’t have enough long-term research on their use in children. That’s why I don’t recommend reaching for melatonin as the first solution. Instead, try shifting bedtime gradually, keeping screens and bright lights away before bed, and sticking to a consistent bedtime routine to help your child’s body adjust. A little patience and consistency can go a long way! #melatoningummies

One surprising reason your baby might hate the car? It might not be the car ride itself! As a pediatrician, I’ve found that some babies with acid reflux may be uncomfortable in the more reclined position of an infant car seat. In some cases, a rear-facing convertible car seat may be a more comfortable option. But of course, sometimes all your baby needs is just a little entertainment! Try singing, playing music, or offering age-appropriate toys to keep them occupied. 🚗 And remember: Children should remain rear-facing until at least age 2, and ideally as long as possible until they reach the maximum height or weight limit for their rear-facing seat. 🎧 Listen to the full conversation with @twoparentsandapod — linked in my bio!
