HANDS OFF THE TREATY! 🖤❤️🤍 If you didn’t know how the NZ girls got down, now you know! A big congratulations to Aotearoa’s newest $1k Performance extraordinaire! The whakawāhine herself, Kiwi Marama! 🥝🌙 — Such an incredible political message displayed here, we celebrate you for this massive milestone! Kiwi Marama 🌙 | The Bluest Ball: OTA Performance GP 🏆 Kiwi Marama is a performing artist of trans experience based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) and a fem queen jewel of the city’s trailblazing kiki house, Te Whare Marama. She is a proud Māori whakawāhine who embraces her deep connection to her cultural heritage, often incorporating her culture in her ballroom essence. Here in this video, she performs with a political statement — referencing Hana Rawhiti’s infamous protest against the Treaty Bill which would erase what the Māori have fought to establish since colonisation. She is everything her ancestors dreamed of, the one and only. As a Māori whakawāhine myself, thank you Kiwi for this important display, this is how we do it back home! 🤍🤍. Category Description: Queer expression is inherently an act of resistance and in Ballroom we honour the historical struggle for freedom and liberation. Open to all vogue styles (Vogue Fem, Old Way, and New Way), bring it in a political message and fight for your cause.
