The first solo cross-country is one of those milestones every student pilot counts down to. Mine took me to Goderich along the shores of Lake Huron, and I still can’t get over the views. After weeks of studying for my PPL written exam, this flight was the perfect reminder of why I started flying in the first place. Doing my final over the lake on my first-ever solo cross-country is a moment I’ll never forget. Now I understand why pilots are such a sentimental bunch. ❤️✈️ If you’re working toward your licence, keep going. Learning to fly has taught me so much more than how to fly a plane. It’s taught me how to sit with big emotions, trust myself, have a little more fun, and embrace being a beginner. I’m also so grateful for the women in aviation who have come before me and made space for women like me to be here. I’m especially excited to keep encouraging more Latina women to see aviation as a place for them, too. 🤍 Solo flights, solo breakfasts, learning from people who are masters of their craft, and slowly learning that maybe my instructor is right… why be stressed? Well… I guess I’m officially one of you now. ✈️ After all the studying, flight tests, weather cancellations, early mornings, “I don't think I'm capable of this” moments, and wondering if I was ever actually going to get there… WE DID IT. To every student pilot currently somewhere in the middle of their flight training: keep going. There will absolutely be days when you wonder if it will ever all come together, but it does. One lesson, one circuit, one cross-country, one (or many) dodgy landing, and one little bit of progress at a time. I am SO glad I pushed through the hard days, because earning my private pilot licence has opened up a whole new world of adventures. ✈️🌎 So excited to officially be part of the private pilot club and to see where we go from here.
