For most parents, a school field trip is just another permission slip to sign. For us, it's wondering how Caiden will handle the noise, the smells, the crowds, and being somewhere outside his normal routine. Some environments can be a LOT for him. But watching him get to experience things like this with his classmates? 🥹💙 THAT is something I will never take for granted. Sometimes the biggest victories are the ones nobody else even realizes happened. Autism parents, do you find yourself worrying about field trips before they even happen?

When Caiden was little, it didn't matter WHERE we were. The doctor's office. The grocery store. Our own house. If there was something to climb, he was climbing it. And I'm not talking about climbing onto the couch. I'm talking about scaling the WALLS of our house. 😳 We couldn't turn our backs for a second. And the eloping? That was another level of fear. People would see a busy little boy and think he was just being a toddler. But they weren't the ones living with the constant worry that he would climb something dangerous or run off without understanding what could happen. Looking back, I understand so much more about his sensory needs and the safety challenges we were dealing with. Not every autistic child climbs or elopes. And climbing alone doesn't mean a child is autistic. But for some of our kids, the lack of danger awareness is something families deal with every single day. And it's EXHAUSTING. Tell me I'm not alone. Did you have a climber, a runner, or BOTH? 💙
