I think about you up there all of the time mum. I wonder what you are doing? I think of you with Nan and grandad. I imagine it to be peaceful, full of laughter and light. I hope more than anything your free from pain. Please keep sending me some of that incredible strength of yours. I think of you every minute of the day mum and on the really unbearable ones I think about what you would say to me. Your still teaching me from up in heaven mum. We were told gallstones. We were told acid reflux. We were told not to worry. Meanwhile, scan reports already showed something far more serious. Within 12 weeks, we lost our mum to cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive bile duct cancer. Our mum was fit and healthy, she never smoked or drank alcohol. Too many patients with this disease are diagnosed late because symptoms mimic less serious conditions. Families should not have to beg to be heard. Patients should not have to fight for answers while critically ill. Mum is (I still struggle to say was after her name) the strongest, kindest most caring person in the universe. What we witnessed and went through as a family will never leave us and no family should have to go through what we did. We want to keep raising awareness, advocate for families, and push for compassionate, honest care. Because even if we can help one person or family going through this mums kindness, compassion and care lives on.
