Unfortunately, our experience here was disappointing. There was hair on my fish, and my oyster was forgotten. The food overall was pretty mid and nothing special. The one positive part of our experience was our server, who was great throughout the night. The issue started when we brought up our concerns about the food. Our server offered a free dessert, saying that was the best he could do, but he did not clearly communicate that the second course had already been taken off our bill. Because this was never made clear to us, there was a misunderstanding about how our concerns were being addressed. The manager, Nelson, then came over and spoke to us in a very condescending manner. He said something along the lines of, “You guys are complaining about a free dessert when the second course was already taken off the bill.” The way he spoke to us made us feel as though he assumed we were simply trying to get things taken off the bill, when that was never our intention. We were trying to address our experience and the way we were being treated. The situation got even worse at the end of the night. My boyfriend needed to retrieve his coat, but there was nobody at the front desk. He went to find someone who could help, and Nelson happened to be the closest person. My boyfriend brought up how rude Nelson had been to us earlier, and instead of handling the situation professionally, Nelson responded by saying, “Get the fuck out of my restaurant.” Absolutely unacceptable behavior from a manager. We understand that misunderstandings happen and that restaurants may have policies regarding compensation, but there is no excuse for speaking to customers this way. We were not demanding free food or trying to take advantage of the situation. We simply wanted our concerns to be acknowledged and to be treated with basic respect. Our server was great, and this review is not directed at him. However, the food quality and especially Nelson’s attitude completely overshadowed the experience. Good customer service matters just as much as the food, and unfortunately, management failed in that regard. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this restaurant. @71Above Restaurant #fyp #losangeles #restaurant #dtla #71above
