What starts as a typical leash law call in Fresno can turn into something so much bigger, pretty fast. My officers were initially called out after a report of a pack of dogs running loose and charging at a woman in the neighborhood. Thankfully, no one was injured, and while they were already on their way, we received an update that the dogs had returned home. Normally, that’s a relief for us. With our shelter at critical capacity, knowing the dogs have a home means we may not have to bring more animals into an already overcrowded shelter. But when my officers arrived, they discovered nearly 20 dogs on the property. The owner needed help because he could no longer contain them, he was struggling to care for them, and the situation had quickly become a public safety concern. We even found two dogs tethered with bike-lock cables so tightly around their necks that they had very little room to move or even lay down. My officers called me for assistance, so I responded to assess the situation. It quickly became clear that there were multiple dogs who needed urgent rescue intervention, and we could not simply walk away. At the same time, I had to determine which dogs could safely remain there temporarily until we have the space to bring them into the shelter. This is the reality of animal control. Hard decisions. Limited resources. Overcrowded shelters. And animals left for us to clean up the consequences of irresponsible pet ownership and failure to spay and neuter. A call that starts as a simple leash law violation can quickly become a complicated animal welfare and public safety situation. And unfortunately, this is the animal welfare crisis we are facing here in Fresno. We will be returning this week to pick up more of these dogs, and we desperately need rescue help. If your rescue is able to help or would like to partner with our shelter, please email: 📩RESCUE@FRESNOHUMANE.ORG #fyp #rescue #help #animalcontrol #adayinmylife

I’ll never understand the reasoning of owning a dog if this is the life your going to make them live. This sweet, precious girl even had open sores on her backend from having to sit in the mud of her own urine and feces. DO BETTER. And as always, if you see something, say something! #fresno #fresnocounty #animalcontrol #animalcontrolofficer #rescue #dogrescue #emaciateddog #foryoupage #fresnohumane #dogsoftiktok #dobetter #fyp #fresnohumaneanimalservice #fresnohumaneanimalcontrol
The bittersweet thing in this line of work, you can never predict how your day will go. Or what you may find. Remember, dogs are 15-20 year commitments. And they take work and responsibility. Every single day. Please keep that in mind the next time you decide to get an animal that you know you may not be able to hold up your end of the bargain for. #animalcontrol #animalcontrolofficer #animalprotectionofficer #welfarecheck #emaciated #dogrescue #acoproblems #greatdane #pitbull #dogseizure #fresno #fresnohumaneanimalservice #fresnohumaneanimalcontrol #fypシ
Come with me on an injured dog call. 🐾 The details were vague, and it took me a few minutes of walking around the area before I was finally able to locate him. When I did, my heart sank. He was in rough shape, covered in dirt and blood with multiple open bite wounds across his body and legs. The muzzle wrap you see me often use does not hurt him. It’s a safety precaution for both of us. He was injured and in pain, and even the gentlest touch to the wrong spot could cause him to react and bite out of pain. Better safe than sorry. Once I got him safely loaded, he was transported to the vet for further assessment and evaluation. Thankfully, he has since been cleared by the vet and is on the mend! 🥹 It’s only been a couple of days, and he’s already improving and doing so much better. Now he just needs something he’s been missing… a good name! Lol What should we name this sweet handsome guy? 🥰 He will be available for rescue. Serious rescue inquiries: 📧 RESCUE@FRESNOHUMANE.ORG After all he’s survived, let’s find this boy the next chapter he deserves. ❤️🩹 #animalrescue #animalcontrol #animalwelfare #animalcontrolofficer #beawareofyoursurroundings
Come with me on this call 🐾 I responded to a call from a landowner who was clearing an abandoned lot and discovered a mom dog and her puppies living in a tree trunk. When I arrived, I was greeted by what I thought was the mom… until I realized it was actually Dad! Lol He was clearly in full protective-dad mode, keeping a close eye on his family. Once I found the right spot, there she was, a mama with her 6 very new puppies, tucked safely under the tree trunks. 🥰 We’re already working on finding a rescue for this little family so they can settle into a safe home outside of the shelter environment. If your rescue is interested in helping pull this family and giving them a safe place to go, please email: 📧 RESCUE@FRESNOHUMANE.ORG One call, one family, and hopefully the beginning of a whole new life for all 8 of them. 🫶🏼 #animalrescue #animalcontrolofficer #animallover #dog #puppy
Sometimes we all need a win, and today, mine was Hazel’s. 💜 Come with me on a community outreach call to bring Hazel home after getting her spayed. 🐾 Hazel originally came to our attention after multiple calls about her running loose. Once we learned more about her situation, we found out she was a loved family dog whose family had experienced an unimaginable series of circumstances. They started with just 3 dogs (2 females and 1 male) and all three were unfixed. After the two females had litters, that number quickly grew to 22 dogs. What started as a small family of dogs became a situation that was simply more than they could manage. This is exactly why I talk so much about spaying and neutering. It only takes one unfixed male and female to start a cycle that can grow incredibly fast. Before you know it, you’re facing litters, overcrowding, limited resources, and families struggling to keep up. Today, Hazel got her chance to go home. 🫶🏼 We worked with her owner on safe containment and made sure she had a secure fenced area where she can safely be outside. I also want to give a huge thank you to Karen, founder of Westside Rescue, for collaborating with me to get Hazel spayed and helping make it possible for her to return home. This is what can happen when we work together toward the same goal. And then I got to do one of my favorite parts of this job, returning her to the person who loves her. We’re also working on getting the other two adult dogs fixed and helping with the remaining puppies so we don’t end up in this same situation all over again and so their owners can get back on their feet. This is what community outreach can look like. Sometimes the best outcome isn’t removing a loved animal from their family, it’s helping people access the resources they need to keep their animals safely, responsibly, and at home. So friendly reminder again to please, spay and neuter. It can prevent an overwhelming situation before it ever starts. And if you’re struggling or need help with your animals, please reach out. Sometimes a little support can make all the difference. #spayandneuter #community #animalcontrol #animalwelfare #kindness
Rest in peace, beautiful girl. 🤍 We tried so hard to save you, but we found you just a little too late. This call still sits heavy on my heart every single day. We ended up taking in 14 dogs total. 13 made it. One didn’t. And that one weighs heavy. People don’t always see the reality behind backyard breeding. They see the beautiful puppies, the cute photos, the polished websites and social media pages. But those of us in animal control and rescue often see what’s happening behind the screen, and some of the conditions these animals are living in would absolutely break your heart. I have seen people with beautiful online businesses selling puppies while the dogs behind closed doors are suffering from neglect, overbreeding, inadequate care and deplorable conditions. So please, the next time you’re thinking about purchasing a puppy, think about where that puppy came from. Do your research. Look beyond the cute website and the perfect pictures. You can say you love animals, but our choices matter. When you put money into the hands of people who prioritize profit over the lives of these animals, you are supporting the cycle. These are living beings. They feel pain. They feel fear. And they deserve better. If this video makes you uncomfortable, good. It should. Because this is the reality behind the adorable little designer breed puppy someone decided they just had to buy. The next time you’re looking for a puppy, remember her. Remember the 1 we couldn’t save. And ask yourself: is bringing another puppy into this world worth it if another dog has to pay the price? So if you say you love animals, let your choices reflect that. Because you can’t say you love animals while supporting the very people who profit from their suffering. #fyp #animalcontrol #animalrescue #animalwelfare #byb
You will never see me in clean pants. Lol I didn’t choose this life, this life chose me. 🤷🏻♀️🐾🖤 #fyp #animallover #dog #cat #letmeloveyou
Sometimes all it takes is the right person🫶🏼 This sweet boy was reported as an aggressive dog, and my officers had already responded twice trying to safely contain him. He wouldn’t let them get anywhere near him, wasn’t interested in the traps they set, and absolutely refused to budge. So I decided to give it a try myself… and the moment I arrived, he came right up to me. 🥹 Dogs can respond so differently to different people, and sometimes they just need someone they feel comfortable with. A little reminder to not always judge a dog by the label on the call. Sometimes there’s a completely different story waiting underneath. He’ll be available for rescue if he is not reclaimed. If your rescue is interested in this beautiful boy, please email RESCUE@FRESNOHUMANE.ORG 🧡 #fyp #animalcontrol #animalrescue #dog #animalwelfare
Sometimes the smallest acts of kindness make the biggest difference. 🐾 I responded to a call for a stray mama dog and her 9 puppies who were discovered on a farming property after workers arrived and found them there. When I arrived, I found one of the farm workers sitting with the puppies while Mama stayed close by in the surrounding fields. He had been giving them food and water, making sure they were okay until the property owner could be notified and a report could be made. Mama was the sweetest girl and waited so patiently as we gathered up each of her babies. And I have to give a special thank you to the man who stayed with them and helped me. He didn’t have to. He could have walked away. But he chose to help. Those are the moments I remember, the kindness people show and the help they give when they don’t have to, but choose to anyway. It means more than people realize. ♥️ Because of that kindness, this little family is now safe and together. Mama and her 9 puppies will soon be available for rescue and adoption. 🥰 📩 To adopt: ADOPT@FRESNOHUMANE.ORG 📩 To rescue: RESCUE@FRESNOHUMANE.ORG #fyp #rescue #animalcontrol #animalrescue #puppiesoftiktok
This call came in with minimal information, as they often do. The report stated that animals had been heard barking and crying from the back of the property for several days. The owner had reportedly been taken away and hadn’t returned, and no one was sure what was actually happening. My job was simply to check on the animals and make sure they weren’t in distress. When I arrived, I found three small dogs loose on the property. All three had noticeable hair loss and itchy, irritated skin, and definitely could put on a couple pounds. No one answered the door when I attempted contact. I could hear more barking coming from the back, so I knew I had to find a way to check on them and, at the very least, make sure they had access to water. What I found was heartbreaking. The dogs were living in deplorable conditions, surrounded by their own feces. The only water available was filthy, filled with dirt and algae. One of the dogs appeared to be completely trapped with no way in or out. At that point, with no one at the property to provide care, no access to water in over 90 degree weather, and the inhumane conditions they were being kept in, I made the decision to seize the animals. It was late in the day, there were more dogs than my truck could safely accommodate, and I couldn’t get the last dog out on my own. So I called for backup and luckily, Officer @Troy Lombas came to everyone’s rescue. Lol But I’m sharing this for more than just this one case. This is the reality for so many animals here in the Central Valley. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: it is not fair for animals to suffer because their owners are struggling. Life circumstances can change. People can lose their homes, their jobs, their stability, or simply find themselves unable to care for their pets anymore. But the animals should not be the ones paying the price. This should not be normal. But unfortunately, it is here. These calls just keep coming. There are resources available. There are shelters, rescues, low-cost veterinary services, food resources, and organizations willing to help. Sometimes asking for help is the most responsible thing you can do for your animals. Please care enough about them to ask for help before it gets to this point. They depend on you. #fyp #rescue #animalcontrol #animalrescue #adayinmylife
