People oask me, "Why do you spend your mornings reading to veterans?" They usually expect a noble answer. They think about service, duty or giving back. And sure, those things are there. But the truth is much simpler, and a little more selfish than that. I read to vision impaired retired folks because it makes me feel good. For just a few minutes, the world slows down for retired old veteran like me. #vision #senior #retired #veteran

The forest outside the canvas walls of the tent was quiet, save for the low, rhythmic hum of the cicadas and the distant, soothing crackle of the campfire. Inside, the only light came from the screen of a heavy duty laptop resting on the Camper’s knees. The blue glare illuminated the tense lines of his face and the dark circles under his eyes. Outside, just a few yards away, the rest of the world was vibrant. He could hear the muffled, musical sound of his partner’s laughter mingling with their daughter’s high pitched giggles as they roasted marshmallows over the open fire. Every so often, a stray twig snapped under a running sneaker, followed by a playful squeal. #Camping #Campinglife #Camper
