Survival mode will have you defending people who destroyed you, accepting things that broke you, and calling it strength because admitting the truth would’ve shattered what little you had left. And the cruelest part? Sometimes you knew the truth all along. 🖤🥀 #Tool #Sober #TraumaSurvivor #SurvivalMode #DarkTruth
Tonight, while other families are getting dressed up and heading out to trick-or-treat, we’ll be home. No costumes. No knocking on doors. No running from house to house. Just our four babies, a bunch of store-bought candy, Halloween movies, and the comfort of our own little world. 🖤 And while that might sound boring to some, for us, it’s peace. Last Halloween was hard. Really hard. One of my boys struggled with the heat and sensory discomfort of his costume. Wearing his mask was too much. Another kept running off, turning what should have been a fun night into a constant fear of losing him. He couldn’t understand why we couldn’t knock on every door. Why some houses had their lights off. Why a candy bowl was empty when the sign said to take just one. How do you explain those things to a child whose brain processes the world differently? A child who sees rules as rules and doesn’t understand why others don’t follow them? What seems like a small disappointment to someone else can feel devastating to him. Then there are the crowds. The noise. The lights. The unpredictability. The sensory overload. And perhaps one of the hardest parts? The looks. The stares when your child is overwhelmed. The judgment when they’re having a meltdown. The people who assume your child is spoiled, misbehaving, or just needs better discipline. People see a few minutes of our lives and make assumptions about a journey they know nothing about. They don’t see the preparation. The anxiety. The constant hypervigilance. The exhaustion. The way your heart races when your child suddenly takes off running. They don’t see how badly you WANT your children to experience the same magical childhood moments everyone else seems to enjoy so effortlessly. And sometimes, that hurts. Because I don’t want my children to miss out on the world. I just wish the world felt a little safer for them to exist in. 💔 I wish people understood that autism isn’t always something you can see. That a meltdown isn’t a tantrum. That sensory overload isn’t being dramatic. That a child running away isn’t necessarily a child refusing to listen. And that different doesn’t mean bad. So this year, we’re choosing something different. Comfort over chaos. Safety over expectations. Peace over pressure. We’re letting our children enjoy Halloween in a way that works for THEM. They still get the candy. They still get the movies. They still get the magic. ✨ They don’t need costumes we couldn’t afford or crowded streets to make tonight special. They just need to feel happy, safe, accepted, and loved. And I can give them that. ❤️ But I still have one wish. I wish the world were gentler. I wish people would choose compassion before judgment. Understanding before assumptions. I wish families like ours didn’t have to weigh public judgment, sensory overload, and safety concerns against something as simple as trick-or-treating. Our kids deserve the magic of childhood, too. Even if their magic looks a little different. 🥹💜 So tonight, if you see a child without a costume, give them candy anyway. If a child doesn’t say thank you, offer kindness anyway. If you see a child struggling, give them grace. And if you see a parent barely holding it together, offer a smile instead of a stare. You never know what battles a family is quietly navigating. I wish for a world where my children don’t have to change who they are to be welcomed. A world that’s softer. A world that’s kinder. A world that understands. 🌈♾️ And until that world exists, I’ll keep creating little pockets of it right here at home. Happy Halloween from our beautifully different little family. 🎃🖤💜 #AutismAcceptance #AutismParenting #NeurodivergentFamily #DifferentNotLess #ChooseKindness
🎃🖤 If only I could go back for just one more Halloween when they were this little… The tiny costumes, the excitement over their candy buckets, the little hands reaching for mine, and the chaos of trying to get everyone dressed and out the door. 😂❤️ Back then, I was so busy making the memories that I didn’t realize just how much I’d treasure them someday. Halloween looks a little different for our family now. Life changes, kids grow, and sometimes the traditions we once loved have to change with us. And that’s okay. 🥹💜 But looking back at these pictures reminds me just how quickly time slips through our fingers. I’d give anything to step back into one of these Halloweens for just a few minutes. To see those tiny faces, hear their little voices, and experience that magic all over again. The magic didn’t disappear. It just looks a little different now. ✨ Here’s to all the Halloweens that made us who we are, the memories we’ll hold onto forever, and finding new ways to make magic as they grow. 🎃🖤 Happy Halloween from my little crew, who aren’t quite so little anymore. 🥹❤️ #HalloweenMemories #HalloweenThrowback #MomLife #autismacceptance #autismmomlife

Survival mode will have you defending people who destroyed you, accepting things that broke you, and calling it strength because admitting the truth would’ve shattered what little you had left.
